ENG 2100: Writing 1 with Jay Thompson

Nishmitha Rodrigo Reading Response 12/1

  1. After reading Lunsford and Ruszkiewicz and familiarizing myself with Ede’s method, I realized that I needed to add in more citation and give more credit to the authors and my sources. I already had a few citations in my research based argument, but I don’t have enough so I made those changes while doing revising my paper. I also made the changes of paraphrasing more sentences because the way I had written them began to sound a bit odd the more I read them. Another change I made is taking certain phrases from my sources and writing it word for word with quotations marks around them. After doing that, I explained the quotes in my own words and wrote out what it seems like is being mentioned in the quote from the text.
  2. Lunsford and Ruszkiewicz define academic integrity as the importance of giving credit to the sources and their authors when you’re using their information. The act of doing this in your writing enhances and boost the ethos of your essay. If paraphrasing certain information comes as a struggle in any point in writing, then the writer is allowed to write it word for work and then quote it. However, the quote has to be accompanied by citations and an explanation. The explanation for the most part is only a couple sentences long and it gives the reader a gist of the quote is saying and why its important and how it relates to the context of the essay.
