ENG 2100: Writing 1 with Jay Thompson

Eryk Trela-Reading Responses 10-11-21

1-I think that Coates felt slightly saddened that the film “X-men: First Class” did not mention any of the tragic but real events. Which had occurred during the time that movie had been set. However, it is very obvious that Coates enjoys the film. Coates complements that cinematic experience he had. Coates states  “narratively lean, beautifully acted and, at all the right moments, visually stunning”(Page 128, Paragraph 3). I still feel that Coates feels as if that missing puzzle piece involving history, but it still supplies the movie with impactful moments.

2-Within Parkins’s analysis of the game “No Man’s Sky” within his writing you can identify a moment of repetition, strand, contrast, and lastly an anomaly. For instance, Parkins continually mentions the idea/act of exploring something new or in this game a new planet. Also, the contrast and strand are provided by the team of game developers. Assuring a lot of mysteries and zero repeating factors. Making the game give off an enticing feeling, whilst in reality, you are left with a player feeling “impossibly small, lonely, and lost” (page 130). The factor of playing in an anomaly is what creates many long-term players and fans. All these aspects matter to lure the most people into the game, including one of the selling points of this sense of being alone in your own galaxy.
