Union Square Holiday Market

During the past weeks the weather did not indicate that we are already in winter. November flew by just like 2016 has in general. Time is moving too fast for people to keep up with it. Thanksgiving always carried a certain spirit in NYC which was absent this year. Christmas seemed to be going to the same because the even the first day, there was a spirit in the city in anticipation for Christmas.  The holiday market in Union Square has finally revived the christmas spirit in my eyes. On a rain day, umbrellas head in both directions.  Walking past the farmers market, twinkling with a bright yellow glow. The outside walls painted in white and red stripes, the typical christmas colors. Stand after stand selling good lined up in paths that broke off in many directions. From clothes to puppets to art, each stand was wide open to the public with each of the people that ran them greeting the passing people. Some of the people that ran some stands talked animatedly while others  smiled, greeted, and just let the potential customers look.  Even though it was raining, there were a lot of people walking around creating excitement. There was a strong smell  of cinnamon apple coming from a stand that nobody was going to at the moment. The people walking around were mostly not from the city, I heard a couple speaking about coming from Long Island just to explore the holiday market. In the true christmas spirit people all came together and there was no much annoyance that could be detected. This year a lot of things have happened that have put the spirit of people down a lot as a whole and many people have said 2016 has been a really bad year and subjectively I would agree, so to be able to enjoy things like this that finally revitalize the christmas spirit creates a lightness in the stress that society with the present problems have created within majority of the NYC community.
