NO-CARD

The past three months that I have spent at Baruch have been very unexpected and different from any other experience I have had in the past. I never really had a good relationship with school. In high school, I always dreaded going to class everyday and hated doing all the work school required me to complete at home. But my experiences at Baruch are nothing like the experiences I had in high school. It’s almost like I traveled to a different universe or realm. Therefore, I used a picture of Dorothy and Toto in Oz from the “Wizard of Oz” because I feel it encompasses the past three months I have spent at Baruch. When I compare the professors, the students, and the environment at Baruch to that of my old high school it is similar to comparing Oz to Kansas. Even though I still do not enjoy waking up early, I like school more now than I ever have. Of course, Baruch has its flaws but when I compare it to my old high school I cannot complain. It has been a long time since I actually enjoyed learning. I especially feel like Dorothy because I do not live at home anymore. Sometimes I miss my Kansas but, unlike Dorothy, I think I will stay in the Land of Oz.

Monologue – Angie DePompeis

When my brother and I were younger, my parents would take us to Blue Mountain Park on the weekends during the spring and summer. My father would barbeque while my mother would watch my brother and I play on the playground. But my favorite part of those trips was after dinner when my father would take my brother and I to the pond to find turtles and catch frogs. My brother would get bored easily so he normally would return to my mother at the picnic table and played on his Gameboy. However, once my father taught me how, I loved catching frogs, even though my mother would never let me keep one. Usually, when I tell people frogs are my favorite animals, they are appalled. They ask me: How could you like something that is ugly, gross, slimy, and has warts? I can never really give them a straight answer; I just love frogs. I suppose frogs remind me of my childhood, a time when I did not care what people thought and my family was always near. Now, people’s opinions matter, I do not live with my family, and Central Park has replaced Blue Mountain Park. The only thing that has stayed the same is my love for frogs, these undesirable little creatures that I find so beautiful.

I am a friend to many people some who went to my high school, some who go to Baruch College, and some from organizations I have gotten involved in (displayed in Slide 5). I was a student at the Hendrick Hudson High School (displayed in Slide 6). I attended school in the Hendrick Hudson School District from kindergarten to senior year. In June of 2012, I graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School (graduation picture displayed in Slide 7). I no longer live in a small village in Westchester County, NY.
