Voices (Santiago Vinasco)

Posted in Uncategorized, Comments Off on Voices (Santiago Vinasco)

I felt a little eerie this time around with the performances. The stories were too dark this time. The first performance made me laugh several times; this one almost made me cry. I do have to give the writers of those stories credit for being so deep and the actors who portrayed them for acting out great emotions. Some of the performances were…odd, to say the least. I was disappointed they didn’t choose one of Kevin’s pieces though lol. He’s quite the comedian. I’m going to be upset I won’t have the privilege to see Voices again freshman year 🙁 It was a good experience though !

One experience in my life that changed the way I view things is the 9/11 attack. One of my closest aunts unfortunately passed away in that attack. She had two really young daughters and a husband. It was devastating to know that she left them with just a simple “good bye” and no warning. It wasn’t easy for a father to raise his two daughters alone. The girls had no mother figure in their lives. After that attack I grew to cherish my parents even more. Any moment of the day I can spend with them I try to. Instead of hanging out with my friends I stay home and keep their company. Family is a huge part of my life. I couldn’t imagine my life without my mother and father. So every day I remember the saying ” friends come and go but family stays forever”.

I thought Baruch voices was actually pretty interesting. The actors did a great job portraying emotion in their performances. I thought that Baruch voices this time was not as nice as the first performance I saw, when the semester started. I felt like the one before was more lively and the stories this time was depressing. There was one performance that I thought was weird. It was the last or second to last one where the girl told her whole life story about her depression and her suicidal thoughts. I felt like even though it was anonymous the school didn’t need to know that. But overall it was a good experience, however, I wish we heard Sam’s and Kevin’s.

Now think back to August, tell me your thoughts, was your 1st semester everything you thought it would be? Better? Worse? What did you hate? What did you like? Did you join any clubs/sports/activities? Hows your commute? Are you staying here? etc

My first semester at Baruch has been exciting. I had waited two years to start college, and I honestly thought I wasn’t going to able to do so. I’m so blessed and happy to be at Baruch! Even though I didn’t join clubs like I promised myself I would (I might Sophomore year), I met some amazing people in our LC. You have all been very warm and for the most part, fun. I hope that we may stay in contact throughout college and beyond, if we don’t, I wish you all the very best! I hope that you may achieve your goals, whatever they may be, and do so with integrity. I can’t say it’s been better or worse than I thought, maybe neutral since it would have so much more exciting if I still lived in the city. I didn’t hate anything, but I disliked having to wake up at 5AM on Mondays and Wednesdays. Thank God I’m starting at 11:10AM next semester! My commute will be much easier since I will do all my 5 classes in only two days (call me crazy!). Maybe we should make our own club (lol who am I kidding you guys are so freakin lazy!!!!!!!)… Oh and I hope to stay here, only time will tell though. I really want to do study and work abroad, and feel this school can accommodate that for me. Irene, you were cool too! Good luck everyone… 🙂

Golm Toblin the author of our summer book “brooklyn” looked like a jolly chap in his late 60s. so his book even though i didnt read it i got  the basic storyline and when he came to talk he almost made me want to read it with his passion and excitement. he had this aura about him that said maybe this book might be better than you think.
