The trip to the art gallery was fun and I enjoyed some of Theresa Bernstein’s paintings. One of the paintings I enjoyed was of the three men reading because this painting was easy on the eyes. My favorite painting would have to be the one of mother and child because it was a weird painting and had a weird vibe to it.

The enrichment workshop was, for lack of a better phrase, a unique experience. Our FRO group gathered at the Mishkin gallery to view works by Theresa Bernstein. Our guide was nice enough to quickly (but thoroughly) explain most of her art pieces that were on display; most of which I really enjoyed and thought were beautiful. The visit to the gallery made me really think about my own (college) decision choices. Before choosing to attend Baruch, I almost became an art major. I started an art portfolio freshman year and continued to work on it throughout high school. During the end of junior year, however, I decided that art school was not for me. After seeing Bernstein’s art works being displayed, I felt a bit regretful not going to art school, but it’s a bit too late for that now.

The artwork from the enrichment workshop showcased the beauty and simplicity of everyday life. Besides this I found the artwork very bland and boring. It was not interesting to me at all. I actually found the tour guide more interesting than the artwork. This experience made me realize that I need to keep an open mind, if I went into the workshop with an open mind I might have enjoyed it. Although I did not enjoy the workshop I definitely took away a lesson from it.

Last week, our class attended an enrichment workshop at an art gallery in Baruch College where Theresa Bernstein’s art is displayed. Usually I am not very interested in art, nor was I very interested in this particular case, but I would say that the tour guide made me as interested as possible. It was definitely a plus that he knew what he was talking about and seemed to be very interested in the topic as well. I liked a number of the paintings, but my favorite was probably “The Readers”, in which her father, among other men, is quietly sitting in a library and reading. It is a very calm and serene image and event. Overall, attending the museum was a good experience, although it would have been nice if we would have been able to go into a little more detail on some of the paintings.

For the enrichment workshop we went to an art gallery. I personally didn’t take much interest in the art, it wasn’t very appealing to me. The work was by Theresa Bernstein and featured works from different times of her life. If I had to choose a painting that I liked best it’d probably be the reading painting for it’s calm theme.

For the enrichment workshop we went to Baruch’s gallery that was exhibiting Theresa Bernstein’s artwork. Our guide explained how she usually depicts real life but sometimes she puts an abstract twist on things. Also, she uses a central light in most pieces to draw attention to that certain spot. I, personally, love art and I am also extremely fascinated with death. We saw that Bernstein used morbid symbols such as dark colors and the depiction of the grim reaper as response to her infant’s death. Moreover, i especially like the way that she subtly included herself in some of her works.

Last week we went to an art gallery where Theresa Bernstein’s work is proudly displayed. Although I usually don’t care for art that much, I found this gallery to be very interesting. I like how Bernstein uses different styles and techniques throughout her pieces, each being different from the next, giving the viewer a variety of different styles to examine. The piece that was most interesting to me was …(cant remember the name)… but it was the last one on the wall as you go to exit the gallery. This one stuck out to me because, as the tour guide explained, was a piece constructed right before she died that incorporated all of her themes and styles throughout her life with things that meant something to her and threw it into one painting; ultimately being the summation of her life as an artist.

For the enrichment workshop, we went to see a collection of Theresa Bernstein’s paintings displayed at the Sidney Mishkin gallery. I love going to galleries to look at the paintings because painting is one of my most favorite hobbies, apart from photography. It could have been better if we went to a bigger gallery or a museum but the workshop was fun nonetheless. I do not like her paintings but who am I to judge? I am sure Theresa Bernstein was very talented and loved by many. If I have to choose one painting that I like the most, it is “Dance Hall, 1911.” Actually, I really like this one. I like the dark tones used in the painting and how everything is blurry. To me, it gives a sense of nostalgia and serenity. I was quite surprised to learn that it is actually a jazz hall inside. So it must be noisy unlike how I imagined. Overall, I think the workshop would have been better if we could look around the gallery by ourselves instead of someone explaining us about the paintings. Most of us weren’t even listening. If we were allowed to go find one painting that we personally like the most, one that we each can relate to, the workshop would have been more effective.

For the enrichment workshop we had to visit the Mishkin gallery located in Baruch’s Field building. We go to view and learn about many of Theresa Bernstein’s works of art. I had never seen her art so it was a brand new experience, while I don’t love her art I do think that some of her paintings were quite good. I really liked the painting where Bernstein’s father was reading in the New York Public Library, I really liked it because of her use of warm colors, it really made the scene look realistic. When I first saw it automatically reminded me of the 42nd street library, the painting really made me want to sit down and read like the subjects of the painting. Overall this workshop was a great experience in that it allowed me to take time off and just relax looking at art, something I haven’t done in a while. It also made me interested in learning more about Bernstein because she seemed like an interesting character, her art was very varied and show different states of Bernstein’s life. It seems as if she is the type of artist that uses paintings to channel her emotions and so you can learn a lot about her through her art. I also think that it’s great that Baruch has a gallery because sometimes we can get so involved in our studies that we forget to enjoy life and I think the gallery offers us an opportunity to relax for a few minutes and think about other things besides work.

During the enrichment workshop today, we took a quick tour around a display of Theresa Bernstein’s paintings. When our guide explained how Bernstein usually focused on this central color that brought her painting together, I started noticing the pattern in many of her paintings. It made me like her paintings even more because I loved how she incorporated that idea into most of her pieces. Two of my favorite paintings were the “Spray of Flowers” and a dark pastel painting during sunset (whose name I can’t remember). The “Spray of Flowers” was very simple yet beautiful. The colors caught my eye right away and the simplicity and elegance of the painting really made it more than just a vase with flowers. The second painting caught my eye because of the central goldish color in the sky that pulled the painting together. The darkness at the bottom of all the houses contrasted really nicely with the “sunset” colors. Once again, it was simple but beautiful. Ultimately, the workshop introduced me to the works of a great artist.
