College Experience

After being in first semester for a while now and attending college classes, I have realized the dramatic difference between college and high school. In college, the classes are much longer and much more rushed. Everything is taught at a quick pace and much self studying is done on your own. I feel that some lecture classes are rather long and boring and I can’t find myself concentrating the whole time.

Enrichment Workshop

The enrichment workshop that I have attended the other day was okay. I learned some stuff that may be practical for the remaining time in college but it wasn’t too detailed. I got to learn more about the required courses that I will be needing to take in order to get into different programs. This helped me with choosing my classes so it was quite useful. However, the video itself was pretty boring and I didn’t find the other information too useful to my personal opinions and liking.

After completing your Focus 2 assessment, post your action plan onto the blog site and answer the following prompts below:

a. “What have you learned about yourself through your self-assessments and how has this affected your choice of major and career goals?” After taking the self assessments I have learned that I am leaning towards the right field of major. I should continue pursuing after my choice of major and continue pursuing my career goals.

b. “How do these results reflect a change from what you expected or planned for yourself previously?”
The results were very similar to what I had imagined. Although there were some variation and minor alternatives, it shows that I should continue doing what I do and continue after Finance.

c. “How did participating in FOCUS 2 help you clarify a future direction for yourself?”
By participating in Focus 2 it helped me clarify a clearer and more positive goal for what I have to do and continue to do. I believe that the Focus 2 cleared up my confusions and doubts and has assured me of my personal instincts. I will look into the alternatives and results more and see how whether it would be useful or not.

Experience Thus Far at Baruch

My experience thus far at Baruch is not what i expected it to be. before coming into college all my friends told me that college is a totally different thing. they said it was live, it was fun, all kind of things to do that we dont get to do back in high school. coming to Baruch i had hopes of experiencing something new in my next stage in life. my first few months at Baruch can be pretty much be described in two words: high school. college was not what it was said to be. i don’t find the excitement that everyone claims to have. its nice meeting new people from all over and not just from my area but otherwise Baruch is boring. i thought about transferring out to a SUNY because my friend said that is where its at, but i decided not to because on a second though college is not all about the fun and partying. to make up for the lost feelings of excitement and fun, i just told myself that I’m here for the education and that is the most important part of coming to Baruch, the business. It was also really convenient, which is a good thing because i am still located in the city. compared to everyone else that is out of the city, i guess besides partying at party houses i have a lot more to do here than i did over there. but although i have access to a broader variety of things to do here, i feel like i am still missing that experience that everyone else is getting that i am not. most of my boys are in Baruch so it isnt that bad, but at the same time it is also why this feels like high school. Baruch is a city college, so you’re bound to see people you know from high school, and in fact  i see a lot of people i know. my first three months here isnt bad, besides the grades part. bths

enrichment workshop

The enrichment workshop is the most live event we did this whole semester. It really inspire me to become a person with a good sense of values.  Now all I want to do everyday is to volunteer and become a good person.

Enrichment Workshop

The Enrichment Workshop we attended failed to affect me. It tried to motivate me to volunteer, but I have no time to do so. The guy was monotone and boring, so I couldn’t even pay attention. The only thing that seemed important was that volunteering makes us feel good. Once I get the time to volunteer, maybe I’ll go and feel good about it.

Watching that video really didn’t do much for me. The only thing it did was make me realize that all the community service i have done along with New York Cares Day are really important. Yes, they are important, it’s important to give back and you should feel good about yourself when you do it. I loved my  New York Cares Day experience, it was awesome. I went there thinking i had to just get it over with but it was actually fun.

There’s nothing about the workshop that really “affected” me. I have volunteered on multiple occasions in the past, so I’m aware that some do it strictly to make themselves feel better (of course selfishness shouldn’t be involved).  I highly doubt anyone’s stance on volunteering faced a drastic change during the presentation—it was just too long and drawn out.

And I apologize if this is harsh, I mean no disrespect to the presenter, I’m certain he’s a good guy. It’s just those that those that want to volunteer will, and not many people I know actually want to visit a nursing home, paint, clean a park, or interact with kids. Unless the volunteering is mandated, fewer people will participate. Basically people require these types of deals to be a two-way street, I do X for you and you’ll do Y for me.

I dont think the workshop was helpful to me.  the whole thing was very boring. alot of people were just talking during the presentation and stuff.  the video was just him talking  and that was very boring.  It didnt motivate me t volunteer or anything

I don’t think this workshop is that helpful to me. The video that was shown at the beginning was dry and boring. It was informative but it was so boring that I couldn’t pay attention to it at all. I think it would have been better if the speaker actually spoke in front of the class since he was there as well. However, he has some good points that can be quite helpful on volunteering.
