This is who I am

Describing who I am through music has proved to be more difficult than I initially thought. That being said I do feel that these songs help in describing a part of who I am.

My name is Amy Campos and I am the youngest in my family of 5. I am Mexican. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister and I am the youngest.  As the youngest I feel a bit excluded from memories that they share from before I was born but I love the sense of comfort I get from knowing that my family will always be there to protect me. I love cats and my ultimate wish is to get to travel to Japan.

Currently I live near Chinatown however this wasn’t always the case. From when I was born to about the age of 6 I lived in Queens. Then when I was 6 my family and I moved to Brooklyn and that’s where I lived out most of my childhood and the beginning of my teenage years. In the spring semester of 9th grade is when we finally moved to the house I live in now. I didn’t really like moving that many times but it has given me an interesting perspective of New York and 3 of its boroughs. Queens was the quietest, Brooklyn was convenient, and so far our neighbors in Manhattan have been the friendliest.

In terms of the music that I chose for the playlist it’s a mixture of who I am and what I like. I like bands such as Simple Plan but I am also a fan of Japanese music. The music that I chose reflects that I am in a period of transition, which makes sense since I am transitioning into a new school environment and adulthood. I value making the most of everyday even if I have yet to learn how to do that exactly. And I love listening to pure instrumental music because I feel like lyrics distract me from concentrating on music. I am a mix of contradictions because I want to be treated like an adult but I don’t want to let go of my youth. In short it’s complicated.

Overall this assignment has shown me that looking inward is way harder than looking outward. Its easy to see other people but its hard to look at yourself. Oh well I did my best so I have no regrets.
