My Monologue

Well, its time to study for my midterm tomorrow.

Lets flip open these books, and study for the next several hours. After all, that what college is. Seclusion at its finest, if I keep doing my academic work, maybe ill make it someday.

Thats what we all tell ourselves, or at least we’ve been taught to believe.

But all this studying and devotion to excellence, where does it take us? Does it help us reach our goals, or numb our brains over the course of the next couple of years until we get to the point where we work as mindless minions benefitting the institution and those who run it; the elite.

What a profound inquiry I just made about our educational system. Is there truth in it, or nah?

All this philosophical thinking is extraordinary, maybe academia is is the inspiration for this, maybe the system works.

What great philosophical knowledge, too bad my midterm tomorrow is in history.

My Monologue

If I could be a super hero, I think my super hero name would be “procrastinator”. My powers would be the abilities to procrastinate anything, anywhere, and anytime. For example this Monologue for Freshman Seminar I told myself I was going to do it the day I got it. But that obviously didn’t happen, I’m currently writing this at 10:30pm Tuesday night. I think it’s due 12:00am but oh wells. I procrastinate everything and always manage to hand in everything on time. I’d have the ability to leave all my clothes on the floor and clean up everything before my mom sees it. The ability  to study for my History test that’s tomorrow and leaving it till now. But most importantly if the cop needed me to help stop a robbery, I would tell him to leave me alone because I need to catch up on my beauty sleep. Yup I am the Procrastinator.

[Monologue] Mean Girls Are Real (Except They’re Male Too)

“So how many of you are scarred for life after hearing that?”

Come on, I thought college was all about being accepting and not judging other people for their interests.

But here I was again, in front of a room, where the teacher is scrutinizing me about something I love to do, and asking others to openly judge me (just saying! It hurts).

I mean sure, I’m not like those girls who wear tight clothes and go to parties. I don’t wear makeup and I choose to wear my glasses over my contacts. How plain and boring, I know.

That’s only when it comes to school. Over the years, I’ve realized it was better to fit in than stick out in academic areas.

Enter: Comic-Con.

It’s like a safe haven for me -nobody judges me when I’m there. People praise me for my intricate details on my costumes and the textures of my wigs. Oh yeah, cosplaying is a big deal for me.

Everyone is so friendly and nobody judges you if you don’t wear a costume. At the same time, you’ll receive praise if you do try.

What I’m trying to get at here is that college is no different than high school. Everyone’s judgmental. Everyone sees that weird girl who likes to dress up and tags her as “one of those.”

Well, I guess I’m going back to being random Asian girl #2 again. But when I go to my photoshoot, I’ll be – eh you don’t need to know.

My Monologue

Uh… Shit. I would like to say before starting that I’m glad that this isn’t another essay but… an expressional piece to showcase myself.

In all honesty, I’ve forgotten all of my lines… so what would you like me to talk about in place of my original piece?

I can be blunt and satisfy this urge to vent out what I might have bottled up over my short and developing life. But that might bore and surely annoy the you guys.

Any Suggestions? Please. Say something… anything? God dammit, this is completely my fault. I’m sorry guys. Well, if you’ve got absolutely nothing to throw at me then I guess I’ma just wait until my five-minutes is up.

Gosh, you’re making me nervous. I hate this feeling. I get these pessimistic, hypothetical situations where I leave in the middle of a sentence and the next thing you know the nervousness goes away but it’s too late to go back. Regret, I think we would all call that. I’m actually contemplating about leaving during a particular segment of this… whatever you wanna call it.

The person who went before me was one tough act to follow. Whoever is coming off of my forgettable performance  is definitely in luck.

This was actually planned out. If you guys were cooperative, then I would’ve ended up with the most original improv performance of my career. It seems that you guys don’t care, which is totally respectable because I would be doing the same thing if I were in your position.

But if there is one thing I learned living this life, it’s that we’re all another somebody.

Steven’s Playlist

https://play.spotify.com/user/dorvilsteven/playlist/6GK906meD4toFgde1E3fds

Hi, i’m Steven or Steve, what ever you want to call me. This playlist i made says a lot, I’m a very self conscious person, i care a lot about what people think and say about me, so i try to hard and go all out when i don’t need to or don’t have to, All Falls Down by Kanye west is my favorite song because  embodies exactly what i am and what most people are. But really i’m just a normal guy who wants the same thing everyone else wants, in Kendrick Lamar’s Average Joe, he just tells the world what his life was like, and even though it was filled with what he called exciting and life changing, the song is really all about him being a normal guy, a product of Compton, California. The Proclamation by the Underachievers is an anthem more than it is a song, it tells you, pretty much, that you create reality, and that anything you want is open to you, but you have to be educated, it talks about how too many people are trapped and that if you open up your mind, your life will change. Each song on the list represents a point in life, and there all in chronological order, i started off unsure if my about my life, i slowly started to figure things out, i made a goal  and now im just working hard to achieve that goal, but enjoying everyday that passes by.

Deontrey’s Playlist

1) 4 Eyes – Nebu Kiniza

– This song is from an underground rapper named Nebu Kiniza. His lyrical level is better than most rappers now a days which is why I listen to him. In this song he talks about some problems he had within his family and how he overcame them and continues to succeed.

2) Black Heroes – Wale

– Wale in my opinion is a lyrical genius which is why people don’t listen to his music.  His metaphors are so complex that people don’t understand them and don’t bother to listen to him. In this song he talks about people hating on what he does and how he overlooks them by being successful. He also names a couple of black famous people that are or have been very successful and how they got there.

3) The Jig is Up – Kendrick Lamar

– Kendrick Lamar, arguably one of the best rappers alive. He basically talks about how people don’t believe he is one of the best. He justifies his success by naming things that he bought and has acquired from selling his music.

4) Fa we we  Freestyle – Wale

– Another Wale song, and in this one he is basically talking trash to all of his haters stating all of his success. This song also talks about doing something because you want to and because it makes a difference, and not because you have to.

5) Let Me Ride – Lil Snupe

– Lil Snupe is a rapper that was recently shot at a very young age, 16 I believe. Snupe talks about coming up from what he used to be. He had been in jail, on the streets, doing all types of illegal things but has made it in the music industry.

6) Return of Simba – J Cole

– J Cole, another rapper who is up there on the best rapper out list. I like this song because he talks about timing and how crucial it is to have good timing. In this case he is talking about timing of his music which is why people go crazy whenever he releases something.

7) Too long – Shizzy Six

Shizzy is another underground rapper that I really because of his lyrics and delivery. He has the best delivery I’ve heard in a while, his flow is fast but you understand what he says. In this song he talks about during his childhood he didn’t have a father figure or even a bigger brother to teach him how to be a man be he still learned on his own.

8) Cut you off – Kendrick Lamar

This song is humorous but at the same time truthful. Kendrick speaks on how friends and even family are always gossiping about each other bringing negativity. Kendrick basically tells them to get out of his ear with all the negativity.

9) It Ain’t Hard To Tell – Nas

– Nas talks about how he is the best rapper and how you show easily be able to see that. He also talks on his increasing talent in music and how it is attracting more fans.

10) Mic Check – Shizzy Six

Another song by Shizzy song, he talks about turning all of his disadvantages and difficulties into success. He is basically saying, no matter what you go through, you always turn it around.

Freshman Seminar

Creating a slideshow with pictures that show my family, friends and interests was the best way I could describe a little about myself in such a brief time. I have two Shiba Inu’s one boy and one girl and their names are Rusty and Nikki. I am an only child and my mom and dad are Scott and Nadia Navarro. I have three grandparents, one aunt, and two uncles. My best friends are Tristan and Collin and we love to do dumb things to get us in trouble. I graduated from Cornerstone Christian Schools in San Antonio Texas with about 50 kids in my graduating class. I love to go to the beach and the lake with my friends and my favorite sport is tennis. My favorite Bible verse is 1st Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”Slide Show

Playlist

1.) DJ Khaled- “I wanna be with you”

Although not many people take him seriously you have to admit DJ Khaled have put out hit after hit. This song in particular would be one of my top 5’s simply because it features 2 of the most popular MC’s out right now (Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross).

2.) Drake- “Enough Said”

Drake has transitioned the music industry in a positive way, and the fact that he uses the late Aaliyah vocals, who happens to be one of my favorite R&B artist, just takes the record to another level.

3.) Chris Brown- “Ain’t no way”

This song is from Chris Brown’s debut album and I still find it enjoyable till this day. The emotion he delivers speaks volumes.

4.) Justin Timberlake- “Until the end of time (Remix)”

Justin Timberlake and Beyonce are both powerhouse entertainers. This duet is fulfilled with soul and definitely grasps the audience attention.

5.) Justin Bieber- “Hold tight”

Hip hop/R&B is my favorite genre of music however I also enjoy listening to certain pop music. Justin Bieber hasn’t been in the best lime light recently but his music speak for itself.

6.) Childish Gambino- “3005”

Childish Gambino is a new and upcoming artist but he certainly proved his self when he released this song from my point of view. The chorus is quite catchy which initially caught my attention.

7.) JayZ- “Open letter”

Jay z is an iconic hip hop rapper turned business man who has achieved longevity. I chose  this song of his specifically because he addresses all the ups and downs he’s faced within that year including his Cuba scandal with the government.

8.) Kanye West- “New slaves”

Kanye West is an extremely controversial artist. His verses really make you think outside the box. This record is can be quite debatable depending on how you look at it.But overall he is trying to send a message.
