The past few months have been both amusing and difficult. There were new freedoms to explore, that we didn’t have in high school, like having your phone out, and using laptops. But, at the same time, there were many challenges I had to face. I was missing old friends, trying to adjust to a new environment, and find ways to get involved in the Baruch community, like I had in high school. Not so much in the workload, did things change for me, but a different style of learning. I felt like I was learning, and making connections that I didn’t realize before. I felt older, basically.

The reason I put the stairs, is because I have almost finished the first semester at Baruch. But, there are many more semesters to come. I look forward to these with anxiety, but also excitement. I’m exciting about taking classes like BUS 1000, but the idea of an Accounting class sometime in the future, puts me to sleep. There are a ton of people who I haven’t met, which holds a door of newly unexplored ventures and opportunities. i don’t know how things are going to turn out, but that’s okay, because the journey is half the adventure. The first couple months at Baruch, were a bit bumpy here and there, and the road will always be a little rocky, but I’m excited to walk upon it. I’ve enjoyed my first three months so far, meeting new people, seeing new things, and taking new classes. I hope that similar and even better experiences come, and I look forward to it. Because, before we know it, it’ll all be over.

I Choose to Live

Monologue by Tanveer Alam

I have a confession.

I’m dying.

But, I’m dying from a disease that almost all of us are dying from too. Let me explain.

We’re all dying to get that 4.0 GPA. We’re all dying for our day to end. We’re all dying to get that internship. We’re dying to pass that math test. Only a year ago, we were dying to finish highschool and now, what are we doing? We’re dying to finish college.

I feel like-

I feel like all we do nowadays is just die. We spent so much time in our thoughts thinking about the future, thinking about tomorrow, that we forgot about whats in front of us, we forget about the present.

I don’t mean to say, that grades, and finding a job aren’t important, but there’s so much more.

See, the thing is, when we spend so much time dying, we don’t realize, and we forget that we lose something very precious, very important. Something we can never get back.

Time.

And, I don’t want to lose so much time, that one day I look back at my life and realize that I spent so much time “dying” to do this and that, that I forgot to live.

A wise man once said, “YOLO”, or You only live once.

But, the sad fact is that most of us spent our lives dying. Living is so much more than just breathing. It’s about friends, and family. It’s about laughter, and love. It’s about watching those movies when you should be studying, it’s about getting pancakes for dinner, it’s about taking a chance.

Life is about the moments that you will never find the words to describe. So, I’ve made a confession, but now I’m going to make a choice. And, that choice is that I choose to live.

Freshman Seminar Blog Post? -Tanveer

Wow, this is confuzzling.
But, here we go.

Linked, below is my two-minute video, and below that is my post.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_A34xec0H0

For this blog post, I chose to create a two-minute video that represented who I am. The video starts off with introducing my ethnic background, and where I grew up. I chose to do a voiceover, while showing footage relating to the voiceover to express my message.
I discuss my interests such as playing basketball, hip-hop dancing, and video production in the video as well. I play basketball with my friends during the weekend, and it is one of my favorite sports. During highschool, several others and I created hip-hop choreography and performed in a dance show for two years. This grew my interest in hip-hop dancing. Additionally, in highschool I was also in a video production unit for a program called Wolverine TV. I was responsible for editing and filming video content for the show, some of which are shown in the video. Moving on from highschool, many of these interests of mine still remain, and I hope to blend them in with my time here at Baruch College. I wish to learn new things, join new clubs, and create new connections. In this video, I attempted to express my interests, and the goals I have for my time in college. I think this video speaks to who I am because it uses one of my hobbies itself, video production, and also establishes a few things about my personality.
