I payed a little visit to the writing center to get some help on writing essays since writing essays is not my strong point. I did not make an appointment but I remembered that you are able to do walk-ins. The only downside is that the walk-ins are only allowed 30 minutes in the writing center. I sat down and was paired up with someone quickly and got straight to work. I always have trouble with starting my essay and writing my thesis. I told this to the helper and he completely understood and made me feel comfortable around him. It didn’t feel as if he was a instructor or tutor, but rather it felt like he was a friend who was just trying to help me out. He helped me plan out how to write my thesis and start my essay and gave me these little tips that were given to him. Not only did this help me start my essay, but it also showed me more weak points that I have. I realized that I sometimes write too much and put too much detail into one body when I should really be spreading it through out the essay. It was only thirty minutes, but within these thirty minutes, I learned almost as much as I would’ve in one semester of English. I not only strengthen my weaknesses, but also discovered new ones. The thirty minutes felt real fast but at the same time, super productive. It was really a great experience and gave me more confidence when it comes to writing these essays. I was skeptical about this since I thought the helpers would just half-ass their job, but it really turns out that they do care about helping you. I really look forward to going back and learning more in order to write better essays.

career workshop
I recently attended this career workshop that helps individuals craft better resumes in order to land jobs. I chose this event because it really caught my attention, especially since I have not written a resume of my own yet. I was a little nervous at first because I felt like I was the only who hasn’t written their own resume yet. I was able to meet a lot of new people at the workshop. however, to my surprise, there were also multiple other people who haven’t written a resume yet or even know what to put on it. This brushed away my nervousness and made me feel a little more comfortable. The workshop itself was really helpful and the instructor was really kind. She went at a pace that allowed everyone to fully understand what you should be doing when writing a resume. Half-way into the workshop, I have already learned so much new information. The best part was that I was not overwhelmed by information, instead, I grasped them and fully understood. I realized that writing a resume is so much more than just writing what you did in your past. If you want a winning resume, there are plenty of tricks and little tips that will help you land a job. One of these little tips and tricks that I learned is that you should build your resume around the company you want to work at. An example of this is if you want to work for a tech company, you would not want to put being a waiter at a restaurant as one of the main things in your resume. Instead, you want to put accomplishments or jobs that you have done that relate to technology like winning a robotics competition. Attending this workshop not only taught me more about resumes, but removed my previous opinion that these workshops were a waste of time. I look forward to attending more of these to not only better my chances at a job, but also to better my future.
Beta Alpha Psi GIM
One of the biggest organizations in colleges are fraternities and sororities. Seeing that many of my friends who were a year or two older join these, I wanted to find out what all the fuss was about. Me and a couple friends decided to go to a Beta Alpha Psi’s general interest meeting. This was a business honor society frat, which really caught my attention. At first, the meeting was looking really slow, but as soon as they brought in the free pizza, things started picking up. They had a lot of members within the business field who’ve had the chance to work for many prominent businesses such as J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, PWB, and so on. It was in a way impressive to me that they had so many connections to such big companies. They would continue to restate that this fraternity was a very prestigious organization that contains many benefits. I knew for a fact that this fraternity is truly a place where if you put in the work, you would be able to suceed and reach further than if you were to try alone. With the help of the experienced members, landing a job, scoring that interview, and overall confidence in yourself is sure to come. However, you needed to maintain a 3.5 grade point average, a minimum of 12 credits, and a one time ninety five dollar fee. I thought everything was alright but the ninety five dollar fee. Nevertheless, it was a very interesting meting that I don’t regret attending because I kind of got to know what some frats are about and what makes them unique at Baruch college. It’s clear that this fraternity is a very serious fraternity and has it’s perks and benefits. With all this said, I appreciated the free pizza they gave us, but I don’t think I’m going to join this fraternity.
