On Thursday, Ezra, Sofa, and I attended an event hosted by Hillel. This event was the Startup Tech Fair. This was a great opportunity. There were a lot of people that attended the event. There was a large line leading out the door of Baruch to enter the room for the event. This hinted to us we were at the right place, and that the event will be helpful for us. The event provided us with information and resources we would otherwise not have. We, among other students, were able to network and meet with the founders of start-up tech companies.
This was interesting because it allowed us to see how we are able to start up our own passions. It was definitely inspiring, because it goes to show that us Baruch students are supported and given resources to succeed and pursue our passions. Of course while this event was hosted by Hillel and geared towards Jewish students, everyone was welcome and we felt that presence. This event was very interesting but not something I felt was necessarily something I would be in– just because I was intrigued by it but would rather work at a law firm or corporate office. I intend to be a corporate attorney or something amongst those lines. While my career choice would be useful for them, I’d like to be in an environment that would teach me the skills I would need. However, I am now more motivated to view different avenues for discovery. This was definitely a learning experience for me.

On November 16th, 2017 I attended the Start up Fair by the Baruch Hillel in the MPR. There was kosher food as well as a panel of multiple entrepreneurs who were keen in the business world. There was ten companies most of them were from Israel and had experience in the tech and Venture Capitalist markets there. The Specific company Sportsguru was my favorite. I had a meaningful conversation with the founder after. I spoke to him about potential flaws in his business model and their target market. He was very serious and was curious about my feedback. He made me really explain my points and why he agreed/disagreed with them. This was a great opportunity for me to learn a lot as a new student. The leaders gave me different things to think about when approaching hard ship. Opposition is sometimes the key success. In order to really be successful hard work and a determination must be included. Life is compared to an EKG graph there are both up and downs. If one is constant no growth or decline you flatline. The business world outside in New York City is one that is extremely competitive. We being students of Baruch College and hopefully ambassadors of its values need to value ethics and hard work. The idea of upward mobility is no more relevant in any other college in the world. We need to use our resources and our education to transform the business sector and the political climate as whole. These were some of the strong lessons iI learned from the incredible speakers at the event. They gave me a sense of hope and excitement for the future and what it entails. I would like to thank Justin and Erin and FRO as a whole to make me broaden my horizons and learn some important great values.
Museum
Today October 8, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts with my friends. There was so much people there so it was really crowded. We had to wait in line for a long time since there was so much people, but the wait was well worth it, From the first floor entrance they had gift shops, family hall and some children’s art. After I got my ticket, I went upstairs to the gallery. The gallery was filled with
people as well. There was people that are trying to draw a sketch of the beautiful sculptures there. There were plenty of sculptures there, some are damaged, but most of them are in good conditions. I have went to other museums before, but this is the first time I seen people trying to draw a picture of the sculptures instead of just taking a picture of it. This museum had many stone statues and sculptures so everywhere I walk, I see people taking pictures or drawing it . There was a old book in the museum and the drawings looks like w
erewolf, but it was drawn in a funny way, which actually made me laugh a little. In the museum there was also jewelries and fine looking weapons made with bronze, as well as pottery. One of my friends use his phone and basically took a picture of everything in the
museum. He seems to like to take pictures a lot, which I didn’t really know until today. I was especially interested in the Greek and roman art section. I really like the myths and legends from the Greeks and Romans. They are all very interesting. The pottery and jewelry in that section wasn’t that fascinating as I thought it would be, but I still took my time to look through everything. This was a great experience for me because I never went to a museum of art before and
it was really interesting for me.
Club Fair
On September 28th, Baruch had a club fair in the gym, where Sofa, Ana, and I went in and found really interesting organizations that we all took interests in! There were variety of clubs that ranged from academic clubs, such as the finance club, sporty clubs such as the archery club, and clubs just based on nationality and culture such as the Caribbean club, which I was asked to join although I am not Caribbean. Even the step team club, came up to us to ask if we wanted to join because they said “we look like we can dance.” It was a very funny moment, where we all looked at each other and laughed because in reality we cannot dance. There were tons of clubs that caught my eye, that I actually decided to sign up for the archery club, the adrenaline club which focuses on exercising and fitness, and the wall street club. The wall street club was the club that I really took an interest in because they explained how, what makes them so different compared to all other clubs is that they have entrepreneurs and other business associates as guest speakers who come in every Friday such as J.P.Morgan. This seemed extremely interesting to me because I can learn a lot from what these famous business associates go through in their jobs, considering I want to pursue a field same as theirs and can maybe get a sense of what I am suppose to be doing now to help pursue that goal and to see what awaits for me for when I do achieve it. Going to club fair was an extremely fun time not only because of hanging out with friends but because I really think I finally put myself out there and saw what Baruch has to offer me.
UCLA
During the second week of school, I attended a UCLA meeting. UCLA is a social club at school that stands for United Chinese Language Association. During the GIM event, prospective members played a game where scenarios were acted out and whoever could not continue the “scene” or ad lib it was the one who lost. I found it rather entertaining and so did my friend. Besides the game, general information about the club itself and upcoming events were also presented. So far, the event calendar includes large scale gatherings such as the Mid Autumn Festival and The Lunar Festival which will take place a few months from now. UCLA also hosts plenty of creative learning workshops such as a lantern making workshop and Mochi DIY day that will take place over the course of the semester. Moreover, it was announced that there will be a fundraiser where dumplings will be sold. This event allowed me to branch out and meet new people.
