For the third blog post for the freshman seminar class and for a theatre homework, I went and watched the play Arden Everywhere/the As You Like It project which was a modernized remake of Shakespeare’s play As You Like It with my friends. The show was performed at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, and it was about the refugee crisis. It was a really interesting play that showed refugees in a new light. With actual immigrants in the play that told their own individual stories about their personal experiences as a refugee, it was really informative, thought provoking and relatable.

Tutoring

In our English class, the second paper turned out to be much harder than the first one, and I was really struggling with it. So once I actually finished my first draft, I wasn’t feeling too good about it and had many concerns with it. As a result, I went to tutoring with my professor who gave me really helpful notes, and overall made my paper much more coherent and something I am actually proud of. I will definitely start going to more of my professor’s during their office hours for help, which in return will help me get better grades.

Hillel is a club in Baruch that tries to connect people to their Jewish culture. I usually come to relax and hang out in their space, but on Monday I went to their September 11 meeting. They started with a story about a former member who died, and how there is a scholarship created to remember her memory. This was followed with a moment of silence, the lighting of candles, and a passage being read. It was a very nice ceremony, and gave a more personal connection to this great tragedy. The people there were very friendly, and I’m intending on coming back.
