My sister and I went to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) a couple of weeks ago. We started off by going to the ticket booth and found out we can get in for free! I only had to tell them that my sister is younger than 16 and present my CUNY ID card, and that’s it! Two free student tickets printed out and they were one of the prettiest tickets I ever seen.
I originally wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone but my plan didn’t work out. I wanted to get pictures for this blog and get some insight on American artwork for my history extra-credit assignment, but little did I know I had to go to the Met. Although it was a bummer, I really did enjoy looking at random installations, paintings of Andy Warhol, and the Sculpture Garden.
It was really cool looking at the installations. There was a helicopter, spider, crushed cars, and a cage. I honestly saw no correlations to any of these installations. I mean who does? Who, ever, understands art? I’m talking about those artworks that are composed of one single color as the background with a yellow dot somewhere on the foreground that ends up costing $100,000.
To end off my day, I went to this part of the museum that looks over the Sculpture Garden. There were about 10 little seats with small desks enough for a color pencil cup holder and a paper. I grabbed a piece of paper and started drawing the rose sculpture. Even though the assignment was to draw nature mixed in an urbanized environment, I made a good choice in drawing just the rose cause there was no way in hell that I was going to draw a whole proportionate scenery with depth in only 10 basic colors. It’s kind of sad that I took art for more than 4 years and I drew this rose so simple (my art teachers would be so disappointed).
To end the day, on my way to the entrance/exit. There were cool displays of assorted colors, and I decided “why not take a picture here?” I actually encouraged other tourists passing by to actually take a picture here. Anyways, here it is–a beautiful portrait picture of me. 🙂
