Blog Post #3- Academic

So here I am in the Major and Minors fair looking around to see if I can find any information about potential majors or minors. The night before I was reading a book called Super Cruncher explaining how economists use statistics to answer question by using regression. This is important because it’s one of the few things that makes me feel happy inside when reading. Based off of that, I decided to minor in either statistics or economics. Too bad when I arrived at the fair, they told me I couldn’t minor in statistics unfortunately. So after that I decided to head over to the finance table to get some information but lo and behold it’s full of people crowding the table. What a surprise that in a business school, everyone would be crowding that table. That’s when I decided I might as well go around and and learn about the various minors offered in this school.

One of the minor pamphlets I picked up was the law department one. I was surprised that Baruch had such a comprehension law department but in hindsight business and law does seem to go together quite well. The problem with minoring in law was if I wanted to minor in it, I needed to take some obscure classes that doesn’t interest me.

On a completely different note, I did find a extremely interesting major called Financial Mathematics. I heard about this major before from a friend but the course requirements of it is extremely math heavy. It actually seems so interesting but the problem with this one was that I haven’t taken a legitimate math course ever since I passed AP Calc so my math is beyond rusty. This would have been a potential major but in addition, I don’t feel anything gravitating me towards this subject. So in the end, I’m stuck with the basic combination of Finance and Economics like every other kid. Yay.
