Blog Post #3 Career – Chris Kaczynski

The career event I decided to go to was called, “The Wall Street Career Panel.” Overall, I thought it was a very interesting experience; however, I do not know how much I really learned about life on Wall Street. As I was sitting and listening to all that the speakers had to offer, at times I often found myself getting bored. I was not bored at their background stories and the amount of struggle all of them had to encounter to have the life that they now have, but rather, I was expecting to learn about the actual careers at Wall Street.

Working on Wall Street is definitely an interest of mine. Finance is something I have always been interested in, and now that I am in Baruch, I definitely want to pursue it as a career. I figured the best place to put my financial knowledge to work would be at Wall Street. Although, it is not as easy as it seems, I know that if I put in the time and effort into it, anything can happen. Luckily, Baruch is a very reputable school in the city and I want to use this to my advantage.

The most important thing I got out of the event was the importance of perseverance and the ability to want to take risks. If you do not take a chance, how will you ever know what would happen? All of the speakers had that same mentality in their mind which led to their success. They all failed at some point in their life but they did not let that bring them down, instead it fueled them to move on to bigger and greater things. Being outgoing and being able to adapt rapidly is also a very important characteristic that companies are looking for when they are hiring new employees.
