Blog Post #1 Lesley Fajardo (Student Life)

Hey guys! During our (almost) three-hour break in between classes this last Thursday, Victoria, Salma, and I decided to go to the Club Fair. Little did we know that we would spend at least 20 minutes waiting for nothing to happen at all in the hallway of the gym (which was hard to find by the way). After all, this was our lunch break and I finally tried halal food while Victoria and Salma got ripped off at Subway! With two hours to spare, we went to the Newman Vertical Campus and checked out the three stands: KPMG, Baruch’s Health Center, and Baruch’s Undergraduates Student Government.

KMPG is a firm that practices audits, taxes, and auditory services. They provide internships to students, primarily those who are in an accounting major, and give them an experience of what it is like to work in a firm as well as provide necessary skills to excel in the business. I found this to be very interesting, and I will most likely be applying for an internship to further my studies as well as my career. Victoria and I got a free pop socket with their logo, and it is very convenient on your phone (the pop socket has changed the game).

Baruch’s Health Center was very nice while informing us about sexual harassment and hygiene. They are always welcoming anyone for any need they have. The faculty there were handing out free deodorant, stress balls, and highlighters with a catch phrase i.e. “Where will you draw the line?” I was very pleased that Baruch encourages their students to maintain a good hygiene because I hate coming into a room already smelling people’s odor. In addition, I also really liked how they’re understanding of the different people they meet as well as how they handle their case. So for anyone who needs medical attention in any form, they are always welcoming.

Baruch’s Undergraduate Student Government (USG) was looking for people to sign up and informing students about what USG is and what they do. They had free food, post it tabs (which I got), and even USG t-shirts! Although I didn’t get a t-shirt nor sign up, it was really cool knowing that Baruch has a great student body that helps organize events, fund and regulate clubs and organizations, and be OUR representatives in front of our school’s administrators.

This was just 3 stands presented on “Club Fair Day,” I can’t wait for the ACTUAL fair! Hope to see you there when it actually happens!

P.S. I also applied to idNYC this Wednesday. You can get a lot of discounts (i.e. Barclays center events, Modell’s Sporting Goods, Broadway shows, and much more!) and it’s just simply another form of identification. It’s totally free and takes 2-3 weeks to arrive in your mail. You guys should totally apply for it!
