4.  I realized I spend the most time in Quadrant 3: Not Important,  But Urgent. I don’t spend that much in the first and second Quadrant because I do a lot of procrastination and sometimes lose motivation. I definitely plan to change that. I will do this by putting in more effort and time to complete all tasks on time.

  10. How this person could help me is by motivating me and telling me the specific critiques on my work since they see how I behave in class and see my personality.

B.  Two choices that I  could make a create a stronger support system for myself in college are procrastination, and not reviewing my work.  Personally I believe I have to be the one to fix my procrastination problem and simultaneously put the time I need to review my work. Besides myself, I guess instructors and friends can help me with that.  Some choices that I could make to overcome these obstacles and challenges to my success are putting more time into my work, not waiting for the last minute. Mainly just making time. Time is a big key to my issues.

  1. I am a hard-working, determined and independent woman, overcoming obstacles to any extent in order to reach my dreams.
  2. The first quality from my affirmation is hard-working. A specific experience in my life when I demonstrated that quality was during my senior year of high school. I always stayed focused on my classwork, stayed after class to finish up my essays instead of go home, be of assistance to my teachers and regulate the after-school activities. It was all about school the majority of my time.

The second quality from my affirmation is determined. A specific experience in my life when I demonstrated that quality was during my senior year of high school. In my school we had the Levie Awards, which was like talent show and I was the manager and host. Even though a lot of people had doubts that it would not be good and wouldn’t finish, I pushed my self during lunch, breaks and after school to make this unforgettable.

The third quality from my affirmation is independent. A specific experience in my life when I demonstrated that quality was during my senior year of high school. Throughout high school I never relied on anyone to help me succeed and achieve my diploma but myself. Everything I did, I did it by myself with little to no help. If anything, I was the one my friends looked for when they needed help with their work.

  • Intelligent
  • Hard-working
  • Persistent

  • Circle the three qualities on your list that seem the most essential for you to achieve your goal or dream as a student.

  • Confident
  • Hard-working
  • Organized

  • Write three versions of your personal affirmation.

Format A: I am a confident, hard-working, organized woman.

Format B: I am a confident, hard-working, organized woman, attending Baruch College.

Format C: I am a confident, hard-working, organized woman, and I will achieve my goal.

Format B: I am a confident, hard-working, organized woman, attending Baruch College.

  • Write three paragraphs- one for each of the three qualities in your affirmation.

The first quality from my affirmation is confidence. A specific experience in my life when I demonstrated that quality was in my senior year in high school when I was trying out for the Spirit Squad with two of my friends. We were supposed to memorizes three cheer and perform them in front of the coach. Both of my friends were nervous and had doubts of not being able to make it in the team. I was confident that I would get all three cheers done correctly and get a spot on the team. I took the lead in the tryouts and was able to make it on the team.

The second quality from my affirmations is hard-working. A specific experience in my life when I demonstrated that quality was when I volunteered for an event called Toys for Tots. It was a hectic event with many children to attend to and a small amount of volunteers. I had to wrap gifts, label them by age and gender range, seat the children, take children to the bathroom and help them, as well as prepare their food for them. I did not get to rest or take a break until I made sure that all needs of the children were met. I’ve never worked so hard until that day.

The last quality from my affirmation is organized. A specific experience in my life when I demonstrated that quality was when I was couponing for my mother. I had to cut out all of the coupons and place them in our coupon book. I created a system where I cut all the pages with the same coupon together to save time. When placing the coupons in the coupon book, I created another system where all the coupons had a page or two to their specific type. For example, on one page I made sure that all of the coupons that had to do with cleaning products were in it and so on.

1.My most motivating goal as a student is to receive at least a 3.0 GPA or higher, and to pass my math classes.

3.Circle the three qualities on your list that seem the most essential for you to achieve your goal or dream as a student (from Step1).

(hard working, motivation, inquisitive )

4.Write three versions of your personal affirmation.

(I am a motivated, inquisitive, a hard-working woman and for that I will succeed .

6.Write three paragraphs- one for each of the three qualities in your affirmation.

A)Motivated: I consider myself to be a motivated person for many reasons. But, I think it all comes from how I view my goals. My long term goal is now to work for the U.N, which is why I’m motivated about all my short terms goals. The fact that I want to work in the U.N has make me a more motivated person, because I know that everything I do now counts towards achieving that goal. Therefore, I put a lot of time and motivation into what I’m doing now because it all will lead me into achieving what I want.

B)Inquisitive: I also consider myself to be a very inquisitive person. I tend to be curious about everything, which often makes me a very questionable person. I’m always asking questions about everything that I don’t know, or that I already know but would like to expand my knowledge on.

C)Hard-working: Finally, I consider myself to also be hardworking person. After all, if I was not to be a hardworking person, I wouldn’t be coming to college at all. I’m often trying my best to understand the materials given to be in my classes, and I’m always trying my best to keep up with everything, including the assignments. I’m also responsable for other things outside of school, and I try to manage them in a way that won’t affect my education; which I think makes me a hardworking person since I’m trying to work through everything without letting one thing affect the other.

Journal Entry 12

  1. One of my goals as a student is to graduate with at least a 3.3 GPA.
  2. Personal qualities that will help me achieve this goal: I’m relaxed meaning I won’t let myself get stressed out, persistent, intelligent, and hard working.
  3. 3 most important qualities: Persistent, hardworking, and intelligent.

4.  Three versions of personal affirmation.

  • I am a persistent, hardworking, and intelligent man.
  • I am a persistent, hardworking, intelligent man chasing my dreams.
  • I am a persistent, hardworking, intelligent man, and I will be great.

5. I am a persistent, hardworking, intelligent man, and I will be great.

6. One example of my persistence was when I didn’t give up on myself when I got injured. I hurt my foot playing football on the streets in 2013 and I was required to go to rehab. Even though the pain was excruciating, I pushed myself to not give up and eventually my foot got better.

One time my brother needed me to do some urgent work that he wouldn’t be able to complete due to his busy schedule. I worked from morning to night to complete this task.

One time where I displayed my intelligence was in high school when the geometry regents were coming up. I struggled in geometry so I made the right choice to attend tutoring and I dedicated many hours to studying. By doing this I passed the regents and I would not have able to if I hadn’t made the right decision.

1. Write a one-sentence statement of one of your most motivating goals or dreams in your role as a student.

I’d like to maintain at least a 3.2 GPA.

2. Write a list of personal qualities that would help you achieve this educational goal or dream.

3.Circle the three qualities on your list that seem the most essential for you to achieve your goal or dream as a student (from Step1).

4.Write three versions of your personal affirmation.

(A)I am a responsible, hard working, and organized woman.(B)I am a responsible, hard working, and organized woman making my dreams reality.(C)I am responsible, hard working, and organized woman, and I love myself for that.

5.Circle or highlight the sentence from Step 4 that you like best.

I am a responsible, hard working, and organized woman making my dreams reality.

6.Write three paragraphs- one for each of the three qualities in your affirmation.

(A) I am a responsible, hard working, and organized woman. I consider myself a responsible student because I always make my schoolwork my priority. For example, I always prefer to stay in on weekends and get my work done, rather than going out with my friends. In addition, I also consider myself hardworking because I always manage to get my work done despite obstacles that may get in the way sometimes. As for organization, although there are days where Im not the most organized person, in the end I know where I need to be, what I need to get done, and how much time I have to complete my assignments. ( I write everything down in my planner)

(B) I am a responsible, hard working, and organized woman making my dreams reality. I’d say as a freshman In college I still don’t have a complete sense of what I’d want to do, but of course, I have a few ideas. Having these qualities are essential to helping me complete my undergraduate studies and in the process, help me figure out what it is I want to do. I want to be able to become the first college graduate in my family and make my family proud. I’d also like to set a good example for my younger brother.

(C) I am responsible, hard working, and organized woman, and I love myself for that. I strongly believe that a positive mindset can take you a long way. Referring to a quote one of our mentors shared with us, “If you can believe it, your already halfway there.” Im constantly reflecting on the progress I make and the work I complete. Even when I may not do my best, I try and look for motivation to help pick myself up and just keep going.

3. What I learned from organizing the activities I do in the 4 quadrant system is that I don’t prioritize homework and studying as much as I should. I spend most of my time in quadrant 4 than in any other quadrant. I find it interesting how I do things that aren’t urgent nor important just to pass time rather than doing school work and trying to stay on track.
