Last sunday, several classmates and I visited The Rubin Museum. It was a great experience. The museum projected two different worlds to us. The outlook of the museum was modern and contemporary, but when we walked in it was a really sacred place. It currently has an exhibition of Himalayan arts that illustrates spirituality, social life, devotion and self-expression. All pieces of art are based on Hinduism and Buddhism.
There were plenty of unique and wonderful pieces of art that we can only find in this museum. However, what I liked the most was a video that is called Shravanabelabola. The video showed people were pouring milk, pigments, flower petals and other substances over a massive stone icon as a ritual practice. That was amazing, and it is something new for me.
Finally, we really enjoy visiting The Rubin Museum. I hope everyone can get a chance to go there if you are curious about Asian art. It is just a few blocks away from Baruch.
Thank you!!!
I see that many of you guys went to the Rubin Museum. Its funny actually, I have been itching to go to this museum for some time now! I’m especially curious about the new Genesis Breyer P-Orridge exhibit that opened on Friday. Thank you for your description of your time there, I definitely want to go even more now!
