Monologue

Flying in a November night

No turbulence, no strong wind

Peace reminded in and out

Everyone was dreaming

Dreaming of ups, dreaming of downs

Dreaming of the upcoming destination

Five hours passed

The captain announced

We are here! We are in New York!

Off the plane

The place was unfamiliar

With no recognizable faces

We were lost

Seriously, in an airport?

Anyway

Speaking a little English

We made our way to the arrival hall

It was 5:30am

Where was cousin?

He supposed to be here

No cellphone plan, no data

It was impossible to get in touch

He in the parking area, we inside

8:30am

Finally, he came in

Everyone was full of joy

No more waiting, no more curses

Let’s go home!

Later, we found out

We misunderstood the meeting place

Upsss! Poor cousin

Major and Minor Fair

Last week, I went to the Major and Minor fair to get a better understanding of different majors and minors that Baruch is offering.

Before going to the fair, I was indecisive about my major. I was between Finance and accounting. I had several conversations with different advisers, and they helped me to understand and decide which major I really want. Also, for the minor, they explained to me how to declare a minor and what classes I should take.

Finally, I talked to an adviser from the STARR. She told me how to build my resume and get internships, and  also it is good for freshmen to start to get involved in on campus activities. Importantly, we should visit the STARR website because it provides all information that we need.

I am happy that I attended this fair. Otherwise, I would be still struggling with deciding my major and minor.

The Writing Center

A few days ago, I went to the writing center for help with my English assignment. It was my first time going there, and it was quite helpful. I was doing a paper about race, and I did very bad at my first draft. Then, my friend recommended me to go there.

When I met with my tutor, she read my paper and pointed out some common errors. Also, she helped me restructure my paper and gave me some ideas for my rewrite. It was a great experience. I think The Writing Center is one of the best places for you if you are not sure about the structure of your essay, grammar, and so on. In addition, if you want someone else to read your thoughts before turning in, all tutors are good choices. Finally, for nonnative speakers, it is pretty helpful to get a better grade on our next paper!!!

Our Getaway to Himalaya!!!

Last sunday, several classmates and I visited The Rubin Museum. It was a great experience. The museum projected two different worlds to us. The outlook of the museum was modern and contemporary, but when we walked in it was a really sacred place. It currently has an exhibition of Himalayan arts that illustrates spirituality, social life, devotion and self-expression. All pieces of art are based on Hinduism and Buddhism.

There were plenty of unique and wonderful pieces of art that we can only find in this museum. However, what I liked the most was a video that is called Shravanabelabola. The video showed people were pouring milk, pigments, flower petals and other substances over a massive stone icon as a ritual practice. That was amazing, and it is something new for me.

Finally, we really enjoy visiting The Rubin Museum. I hope everyone can get a chance to go there if you are curious about Asian art. It is just a few  blocks away from Baruch.
