Hello Class!
Here is a list of tips and tricks for Baruch. We edit and add to this from time to time! Hope it helps some of you!
NOTE: this info is just stuff I want you to know, some of it might not be very thorough/it’s not from an official person.
- Keep an eye out for campus events that involve giveaways, free stuff is always great.
- join a club first semester, the earlier you join, the better standing you will have in the club/maybe you can become a member of the e-board faster.
- explore the buildings, there is a computer lab on the 12th floor almost nobody knows about, so skip the long printing lines and go there.
- you will have to activate your library card before you can print stuff.
- you will have $100 of printing money on your card each semester
- pay attention to the academic calendar, nobody will remind you of due dates (for tuition etc.).
- meet with advisors to pick your classes, even your pathways core (those random classes you take) need to be chosen strategically, sometimes they can help be a pre-requisite for a minor.
- go to the major/club fairs when they have them.
- make a resume at the STARR center, you have no idea how many times you will be called upon for your resume (in my business recitation, I had to hand in mine for homework/when I applied to TEAM baruch, I’m pretty sure I needed one then too).
- if you lose your ID card, you will need to pay $10 at the bursars office (0n the 8th floor of the library) and get a receipt from them, before you can go to the ID center (located on the first floor of the library near the trading room) to have them make a new ID.
- There are bathrooms on pretty much every floor of every building.
- ICE-WATER IS ALWAYS FREE. At the bookstore or at starbucks (or legally, anywhere serving food), it is always free, never pay for a bottle of water again.
- way to make friends: Apply to TEAM Baruch or at least do leadership weekend/adventure day (you can do those without being in TEAM Baruch). Trust me, if you want to make more friends, this is the way to do that. Plus if you do decide to do TEAM Baruch, you can become an orientation leader, FRO peer mentor (hi i am that for you guys), a RA at the dorms, work for PAWS or work in STARR (I’d double check those last 2 because i am not 100% sure if thats the right name for those jobs offered through TEAM Baruch).
- Make a study group within your block. In my block, we all rented out a room in the library and would study for tests together in it, you will never have the experience of a block again so might as well make the most of it while you have all these people around you to help you in every subject.
- if you want to join a club but don’t know how to find them, google them!
