Likhon_Roy Blog Post#02 (Academic)

Its been almost 4 months I have been in New York. And time flies here, things happen a little too fast. I have wanted to go to a NYC museum since I started watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Today I visited the New Museum of Art in Lower Manhattan. Although its free, but it was awkward to not donate at least $5.

The best part about museums here in New York is probably how one place can hold things from so many places and so many times. What I always looked for in art was things that come as raw. original and ugly but yet very beautiful. And probably for the first time in a long time, I have experienced something like that. In all the 5 stories of the museum my favorite was the Carol Rama”s work. The early 20th century Italian Painter had her inspiration from the family that was in psychiatric asylum. Her paintings were about the ugly things in our society and yet her originality made it easy for her convey the message she wants the society to know about.

If you ever need something that would make you forget everything else for a while, just visit any museum and look into some art you like. The more you see the more you will know. At least that’s how it was for me. Although my favorite picture would be the one I am uploading with this post. It looks very simple but I couldn’t really describe it. And I guess that’s the beauty of it.
