For the first time since I came to New York I visited a museum. The museum, named after its location, mainly displayed art yet I had picked the Brooklyn Museum for one specific exhibition called: The Dinner Party at the Center for Feminist Art section of the museum. The museum was constructed as a structure with classical architecture and was awe inspiring as I saw it. The inside while significantly more modern still could hold the feel of the structure itself. The exhibition was a large triangle table with specific nameplates each commemorating a famous woman throughout history. The work of art then goes on to design different chinaware, chalices, knives and forks with motifs and designs each changing depending on the individual accomplishments of the woman.

This was a very new experience for me since most museums and art galleries in turkey either won’t have significantly well known art exhibitions or these exhibitions will be based on classical art rather than contemporary or feminist art. By having this experience not only did I get a chance to better view and understand modern art, I also got the chance to commemorate Women’s History Month. Another interesting exhibition I was able to view was Georgia O’Keeffe’s exhibition named Living Modern. In this exhibition, she reflects and explains herself and her progressive, open lifestyle through examples of her clothing, her art work with her by its side and her pictures taken by other photographers. It was very interesting because it was someone whole life reflected through not just art but everyday items like clothing. Both the exhibitions I visited were very beautiful and well done. I am very glad I experienced this trip and I already know I want to see many more museums and exhibitions while I’m here.
