Enrichment Workshop #3

My third and last enrichment workshop is the career workshop to go to a career event. This was a pretty difficult one considering I didn’t know which ones I should go to. Last week we were looking at events to go to and at the time we only were able to go to one which was held at the STARR career development center. I was hoping to go to a bank considering I had an interview with chase to be a associate banker and I felt that would’ve been something good for a career workshop, however me and my friends where nearby the STARR center so we had just went. I’m quite glad I went there because I learned a lot more than I would have expected. I didn’t know exactly what to do or say, but the staff was very kind and were able to help me out with ease. We revised on our majors and minors but specifically minors which would be a good fit for our field of study. Since I wanted to be a finance major the best minor would have been either business or economics. I’ve chosen previously to minor in economics and hope to stick with it. They did help decide what fields where best for me for what I wanted to do and what I needed to do to get there. We also discussed about linkedin and how to set the profile up and told us when the next date for the linked headshots were. They also advised on how to use the Simplicity app which also helps with jobs and internships with important companies similar to linkedin. There were multiple applications for interviews at different companies but one that caught my eye was the one at Goldman Sachs who’s deadline is on December first. However, first I’m hoping to set up s good resume with decent experience and good grades before I apply to these places.

Enrichment Workshop #2

For my second workshop which I did last week was the academic one and my friend who had already done it took to me a fashion museum not too far from baruch. It was a convenient place to go considering it was close by and it was free. At first I didn’t expect much from a fashion museum because i’m not much of a museum person or into fashion or intricate wears. However, I was quite surprised by what I saw. Some of the outfits and dresses where pretty nice. A mix of old and modern design. It was nice looking at the colorful, sparkly, elaborate clothes. The exhibit was also quite informative to read about. There was also a special exhibit for Paris. They showed their main designers, culture, outfit designs throughout time, and however the centuries its been considered the city of fashion. I found the museum pretty interesting although I’m still not the biggest fan of fashion and clothing to that extent it was still a good experience and I would probably go again.

Weekly Reflection 4

Today was the first day of FYS after 2 whole weeks considering class was cancelled last week. In class today we talked about culture and what culture means o us. Culture is something people share as a group. You can associate religion with culture and many other things such as food, clothing, fundamental way of living, music, etc. We also talked about how the United States separate people through a verification of race. I believe that it is neither a bad or good thing that the US has these set standards to have the people who live here in check. America is one of the most diverse countries in the world with people from many different countries. As one of my peers in class has said the US uses this system for logistic purposes. We also watched part of a video which made me think that all people have different yet similar lives. Whether good or bad, we are all still people just living our lives.

Weekly Reflection 3

On Tuesday 9/17 classes were all cancelled in the NVC building. Luckily all my classes where there. I barely slept that night and I was running late to my philosophy class. I was shocked but filled with excitement that day. I could have went home but I decided to go out with friends that day and watch movies. I have been doing pretty well in all my classes so far. I got 100 on most of my quizzes for math. I also started to practice new songs on the piano. Im slowly learning more about Baruch and what it has to offer.

Enrichment Workshop #1 – Shahir Choudhury 23714116

For this week enrichment project I chose an academic workshop. I attended the Study Abroad fair that was held in the the auxillary gym.  I had went around and conversed with many people from a many different backgrounds and even Baruch students who have attended these study abroad courses. I have met people who had attended college in Denmark, China, Spain, Singapore, Germany, Madrid, France, Belgium, India, Thailand, and Amsterdam I heard about many different experiences from people who had attended these many different colleges from afar. It was interesting to learn how a different environment can enhance your study and broaden your perspective. Adapting and learning new cultures was also a pretty big thing too.  People who have came from places like Denmark, France, India, Madrid and Amsterdam had talked to me about how beautiful these cities were and how it was imperative that I should visit them. Amsterdam being a place filled with many wonders and experience which many of you may know what I’m talking about. France with their beautiful yet old structures. Singapore with their beautifully vibrant and rapid city, which is also a great financial capital. One of which I was considering along with Copenhagen, Denmark. However these cities may be beautiful and an amazing experience there are still many other factors that one needs to go through to be able to apply for study abroad. My reason to study abroad is to learn and explore more about different people and environments especially in the business or finance field. You never know who you will have to interact with and having this knowledge and experience can go a long way. Study abroad is of course not “cheap”, it does cost a lot of money however there are many scholarships that can help with that such as the Boren Scholarship, Shwarzman Scholars, Gillman Scholarship and many more. Going to this fair had helped me learn more about what I wanted to do in my future here at Baruch.

Weekly Reflection 2

So far its been 3 weeks of classes and its been the same as it has been the previous week. Slightly more work however and more quizzes but still pretty light and straightforward. All my classes have gone fairly well.  During our FYS class today we had someone from the study abroad office talk to us about their study abroad programs and I’ve always wanted to study somewhere far. To be in a new environment, where I can learn and explore new things is one of the things I look forward to studying abroad. So I am considering to apply for that when the time comes, also applying for the scholarships. We also talked about the honor programs at Baruch and what you need to achieve it and I also hope that I can achieve those necessary requirements to validate for those program.

Weekly Reflection 1

It is the second week of school and I am slowly adjusting to my class schedule especially especially my early morning classes at 7:50 am. I have learned a lot so far in my classes especially in psychology and philosophy. I have learned aspects or morality and the true meaning of goodness or happiness in philosophy and have learned function of the mind and brain in psychology and have found both subjects very fascinating. English however may be kind of annoying considering we have to be there for almost 2 hours. All in all the majority of these classes have seem to be pretty straightforward and my professors seem to be pretty good.
