Workshop #1

For this assignment I chose to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in 1000 5th Ave, New York. I went with my older brother. We  chose to go there because when we were searching for a destination, this museum looked the most appealing, which in the end, it wasn’t disappointing at all. The MMA is the largest museum in the United States. It is also one of the most visited museums in the world. The permanent collection consists of works of art from classical antiquity and ancient Egypt paintings, and sculptures from nearly all the European masters, and an extensive collection of American and modern art.

As we walked we analyzed the different type of painting and their possible hidden messages. It is very impressive how detailed and unique each of the painting were. As I continued walking I was wondering how were they so smart and talented, how they developed things that even we, modern humans, cannot or wouldn’t be able to do it without a machine.

In this place there were so many people crowded in the dark holding their phones and trying to take a picture. They were very careful because it wasn’t permitted to take pictures of the Saint Jerome in the Wilderness, an unfinished painting by Leonardo da Vinci with the flashlights on. I was shocked that they were actually no light pointing straight at the image because it would damage the quality of the painting.  The painting was made with such delicacy, which made it different from the others painting, this one gave a much deeper feeling since all you could see in the painting was the person suffering.

In the end, the visit to the museum made me learn so many things, I felt like if I was time traveling since there were so many different things from different places and era. I personally feel like visiting a museum is a beautiful experience because you learn about previous cultures and beliefs.
