In 2003, a knifeman prowled the streets of Tunis, attacking women from behind. Known as the Challat (the slasher), the mere mention of his name provoked fascination and terror. Was he a lone criminal, an urban legend, a political fanatic?
Ten years later, director Kaouther Ben Hania is looking for answers in this mockumentary. Conducting interviews with real people as well as staging them with actors, she uses satire to take a pointed look at attitudes toward women in Tunisia.
