I find it interesting that both of our lectures so far this spring have centered around the interactions among artist colleagues and the importance of mutual recognition. Yasuyo Koniyashi was honored by his colleagues for a long career, and Annemarie Heinrich was super active in collaborating with (and competing against) other photographers. This kind of collaboration must have been very creatively fruitful for her.
I loved the “the gold medal had no actual gold, just the renown of having won”. Alise made it sound like not only individuals were competing against each other, but also countries were competing, a little like an artistic Olympics.
