A devoted but wronged wife becomes a Hindu goddess. A mother goes mad from defying society and becomes a Buddhist renunciant. Both goddess and mother illustrate themes that are as relevant today as they were two thousand years ago. In this illustrated lecture, art historian and curator Donald Stadtner explores the complex syncretism of religious practice in Sri Lanka.
