I learned a lot during this lecture. I was surprised to learn that the painting faced censorship due to its depiction of a recent and contentious political event and that Manet was unable to exhibit the work publicly during his lifetime. It is interesting to see that censorship existed at that time too, although it is very different from the censorship that we see today. Censorship today is different across regions though, and I feel that places like the United States have more room for free speech as compared to some other countries where censorship is more prominent.

I agree with you, but I also think that is constantly changing especially after the pandemic the US has also become very aware and sensitive towards various topics that could potentially cause a lot of reactions.

I agree with you, and there are still censorship around the world eventhough it is 2023.

I agree with you. You brought up a similar point I also thought of the various levels of censorship that exist and it is important to acknowledge it’s effect when understanding historical events
