That was surprised me, that I thought Mexico is only ruled by the spanish. but also France has some power in Mexico. Manet’s painting reflect. during the 1860s Napoleon involve the countrol of Mexico by installed Maximilian to be the Emperor of Mexico, However, not always a good idea to interfer other countries politic, the emperor maximilian were executed. this paiting reflecting Manet engagement of the political and feeling at that time. and it is very debatable painting.
