About the Financial Coaching Program
Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) is offering financial coaching services as part of the nationwide Financial Opportunity Corps (FOC). FOC is a partnership between Points of Light, the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service, Bank of America and the Corporation for National and Community Service to create volunteer-led financial coaching programs at existing nonprofit organizations in their local communities across the country.
Asian Americans for Equality is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Asian Americans and all of those who are in need. Founded in 1974 to advocate for equal rights, AAFE has transformed in the past four decades to become one of New York’s preeminent housing, social service and community development organizations. At its heart, AAFE embodies the hopes and dreams of New York’s many vibrant immigrant communities, and helps turn those dreams into reality.
Want to Become a Financial Coach?
Volunteer financial coaches will work closely and build relationships with 1-2 clients. Coaches will facilitate clients in their personal financial decision-making process by asking questions and providing follow-up support. Training on coaching skills and financial knowledge provided, no experience required!
This is a volunteer service position
AAFE will provide certification and recognition to document the number of hours each volunteer contributes to the Financial Opportunity Corps.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Attend a 1-day training on coaching skills and financial literacy
- Meet with clients one-on-one regularly.
- Provide follow-up support to keep client on track
- Commit to 2-4 hours a month for six months.
Desired Qualities
- Deep and willing listener
- Patient and supportive
- Language proficiency in Chinese, Spanish, or Korean is a plus!
