On Tuesday, May 13th from 6:30-8:30 PM at the Macaulay Honors College, the club “Avasara” will be hosting the event “Trafficking in Our Backyard.” It will be an evening focused on domestic human trafficking and our role as a community to prevent further abuse. There will be a panel consisting of researchers, representatives from prominent organizations and trafficking survivors.
Following the panel will be a catered dinner and a resource fair- where you can learn how you can help the cause. One of our panelists Shandra Woworuntu is a sex trafficking victim and survivor. She is the founder of “Voices of Hope” and was appointed by governor Chris Christie to be Commission on Human Trafficking in the State of New Jersey. Another panelist is a sex trafficking victim and survivor Stacy Jewell Lewis. This brave woman has helped organizations such as the Department of Justice, Shared Hope International, The Araminta Freedom Initiative, and The Baltimore FBI Special Task Force to assist in the escape of many more survivors of sex trafficking like herself. Our very diverse panel consists of people who specialize in different aspects of human trafficking; they are all inspiring individuals who have dedicated their lives to helping this important cause.
