NSF Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service (SFS)

NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, an NSA designated Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education, is currently offering the NSF Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service (SFS) to students who wish to pursue an education in cyber security. This scholarship is available for undergraduate as well as graduate (both MS and PhD) students.
Eligibility and Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen.
- An undergraduate or graduate student two years from graduation from the point he or she starts receiving the scholarship.
- Must apply to, be admitted to, or be currently enrolled at NYU-Poly, NYU-Stern, NYU-Steinhardt, NYU-Wagner or NYU-Courant.
- Must pursue a cyber security intensive program of study as approved by the executive director of the SFS program at Polytechnic. This program will be consistent with any technical degree offered at Polytechnic, such as computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications, cyber security, computer engineering, but will have added emphasis in cyber security.
- Attend school on a full-time basis while receiving the SFS scholarship.
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0 for BS students and 3.5 for MS students, while in the program.
- Successful applicant MUST work for two years at a federal agency upon graduation.
- Meet selection criteria for federal employment: final job placement might require security clearances.
In order to apply, student must submit the following:
- A signed statement of understanding of program requirement. Click here for statement
- Official Transcripts from all colleges attended.
- A statement describing your career goals in government service and cyber security. This statement should also describe experience if any in cyber security, including courses, projects, thesis, job experience etc.
- At least two recommendation letters, with preferably one from a faculty member of an academic institution.

Scholarship Benefits:
- Full tuition and all academic fees that apply.
- Academic year (9 months) stipends of $20,000 per year for undergraduate students, $25,000 for master’s degree students and $30,000 per year for doctoral students.
- Professional development allowance (travel, professional certification etc.) up to $1,300.
- Book allowance up to $1,000 per academic year.
- Customized mentoring and advising from ASPIRE faculty advisors and ASPIRE alumni
Activities to interact with an interdisciplinary cohort of other ASPIRE scholars. - Dedicated career planning support from ASPIRE staff.
- 3-month paid summer internship at a federal agency during students first year in the program.
- On graduation, potential placement at a Federal Agency in a cyber security related job.
