The Udall Scholarship
———————

Deadline: Monday February 23, 2015, and must be submitted online.

The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to American Indian nations or to the environment. The Udall scholarship honors the legacies of Morris Udall and Stewart Udall, whose careers had a significant impact on American Indian self-governance, health care, and the stewardship of public lands and natural resources.

Udall Scholarships are offered in three categories: Tribal Policy, Native Healthcare, and the Environment. The scholarships provide $5,000 for educational expenses, a chance to meet other Udall Scholars, policy makers and community leaders at the Udall Scholar Orientation, and access to an active and growing network of alumni who are ready and willing to help with the post-undergraduate transition.

Udall Scholars are selected on the basis of:

  • Commitment to a career related to the environment, or to tribal public policy, or to American Indian health care;
  • Leadership, public service, consensus building, and integrity;
  • Academic achievement

An understanding of the Udall legacy, demonstrated through the application essay.
