Graduate Fellowships for Foreign Service Careers

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellowship
Deadline: Wednesday January 13, 2016.
The Rangel Program will select 30 outstanding Rangel Fellows annually to support them through two years of graduate study, internships and professional development activities, and entry into the Foreign Service. This program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need. Upon successful completion of the fellowship, Fellows join the Foreign Service.
The Rangel Fellowship provides:
• $47,500 annually towards tuition, room, board, books and mandatory fees
• Two paid State Department summer internships (domestic and abroad)
• Professional development through workshops and informational seminars
• Mentoring by U.S. Foreign Service Officers
Eligibility at the time of application:
• Seeking admission to enter graduate school in fall 2016 for a two-year program at a U.S. university
• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale)
• U.S. citizenship

The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowships
Deadline: Friday January 15, 2016.
The Pickering Fellowships help talented students — highly motivated and academically excellent juniors, graduating seniors or college graduates — who want to pursue a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State. The goal of the program is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic and social backgrounds who are dedicated to representing America’s interests abroad. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply.
The Pickering Undergraduate and Graduate level programs provide:
• Up to $37,500 annually for academic expenses
• Two paid State Department summer internships (domestic and abroad)
• Professional development through workshops and informational seminars
• Mentoring by U.S. Foreign Service Officers
Eligibility at the time of application:
• Graduate Fellowship applicants: Current college senior or college graduate, entering a two-year terminal master’s degree program in the fall of the Fellowship year
• Undergraduate Fellowship applicants: College junior or equivalent
• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale)
• U.S. citizenship
