Director’s Welcome

Welcome to Baruch Honors!

Expectations

We have high expectations for you and look forward to your participation in the Honors community at Baruch. We expect you to:

  • embrace the program’s spirit—that you seek to expand yourself intellectually, challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone
  • engage with your fellow students and faculty
  • embrace community service in the spirit in which it is intended:
    • not as a requirement to be filled but as a way to enhance the lives of others,
    • as a way to understand the historical, cultural and political contexts of the persons you are serving,
    • and to evoke personal growth

Unsolicited advice

You have an opportunity that few have:  to be a full-time student.  I urge you to

  • invest yourself and your time
  • Take classes and find opportunities outside the classroom that allow you to challenge yourself, explore new ideas, and take risks
  • conduct undergraduate research or write a thesis
  • study abroad
  • and cultivate curiosity and enthusiasm for learning

Your honors experience does not need to end at graduation; we hope you will also consider pursuing post-graduate opportunities such as the Fulbright or Truman Scholarship.

Happy education crafting!

Sincerely,

Jody Clark Vaisman, Ph.D.

Director
