The BSPA is the public policy advocacy and analysis degree that makes a difference. Students learn to formulate, implement, and evaluate creative solutions to challenging global, national, state, and local problems. The emphasis is on understanding practical ways to help others and to improve public policy. Upon graduation, students may pursue a career in a nonprofit organization or the government. The degree also prepares honors scholars to attend law school or obtain a master’s level degree in public policy and administration.
- The BSPA requires 120 credits: a minimum of 30 public affairs credits and another 90 credits from the CUNY Pathways general education curriculum.
- Honors students should complete PAF 1250, or with permission POL 1101.
- In the Pathways curriculum, the recommended college option for BSPA students is the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences.
- BSPA students are not eligible to double major.
- To become a BSPA major, you must complete a major declaration form. Submit by email to [email protected] or deliver in person to the Office of Academic Programs on the 4th Floor of 135 E. 22nd Street.
- You may declare as a BSPA major at any time. You may not register for PAF courses at the 3000 level or above until you have completed 45 credits. You should declare no later than the semester in which you are completing 60 credits.
- Scholars are encouraged to complete multiple internships and receive academic credit for PAF 5452 or PAF 5001. Contact SPA’s internship director Professor Michael Feller at [email protected].
- PAF4401H is required to graduate with honors.
