The below guideline will help you properly document your internship in order to meet your MHC requirement (of an Internship or a Study Abroad experience), apply for a stipend through the Opportunities Fund or do both.
What is an Internship?
Macaulay Honors College defines an internship as a carefully monitored, substantive preview of a career or profession with clear learning goals. To reach these learning goals, the internship encompasses defined expectations; real work; and dedicated orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation. Definition details here.
Before Your Internship
You should always meet with you advisor to discuss your plans to pursue an internship. You will need their approval in order to have the internship meet the MHC requirement or apply for a stipend through the Opportunities Fund.
In addition, the Internship Learning Agreement Form must be completed and submitted to your advisor before your start date. Documentation cannot be accepted after you begin the internship. Therefore, your internship would not fulfill the MHC requirement and you may not apply for a stipend through the Opportunities Fund for that particular role.
After Your Internship
After you have completed your internship, you must complete and submit an Internship Evaluation form. This form is required for both meeting your MHC requirement as well as applying for a stipend. To submit your internship evaluation, complete the online Macaulay Honors College Evaluation.
Opportunities Fund
Additional information is posted on the MHC website regarding the Opportunities Fund. Please make sure you know and follow all the guidelines and procedures before applying for funding for your internship experience. Failure to do so may result in a denial of funding.
