Samantha graduated in 2017 with minors in French and Marketing. She is currently working as a Medical Specialist at Barach McGarry law firm, and also runs her own company, Apmworldmag.

Samantha’s Journey
My plan was to return back home to work in import-export because it is something that was lacking there. That’s the situation in my country, but I was unable to achieve that. Now, my 9-5 is role is to work as a medical specialist at Barasch McGarry law firm. I retain medical records for people that were affected by 9/11 and help them with their claims.
Samantha’s Study Abroad Experience
I studied abroad in France, in Lyon. I met many people who were focused on management, export-import, investors, and marketing. Even though I was not able to achieve my dream to work in the import-export sector, my study abroad experience opened my eyes to an international level and gave me different perspectives.
Samantha’s Experience at apmworldmag
It’s a creative directive company, basically like marketing. What we provide is marketing strategies, social media content strategies for artists, mostly from Africa. When they have a tour in America, they contact us, and we take care of most of their marketing and social media strategies during the tour. We travel with them, taking pictures and creating strategies for how they can interact with their consumers on different digital platforms. We focus on platforms like Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

Samantha on Starting her Company
It was something I always wanted to do since my time in the IB program, which is why I minored in marketing. Traveling to France, I met some locals who introduced me to the nightlife scene, and that’s when I realized I could use marketing to grow businesses. I made contacts back in the U.S., started small with friends from Baruch, and expanded from there.
Samantha on the Marketing Industry
There’s always a new way of doing things. So, continuous learning is key—continuously searching and uplifting yourself by gaining more knowledge. That’s a skill someone should always have. It’s best to keep yourself up-to-date. I’m still taking marketing courses—last year, I did a HubSpot course to brush up on my skills and learn new ones.
Samantha’s Advice to Students
Do your own research. Is this where you want to position yourself in the world and in the IB world? Go to Sarah, ask her all the questions you have about the program. When you get into the program, create your own network of people who have the same ideas as you, or who have a path where you want to go in the future. You can learn from different people.
