It’s hard to write a biography when you haven’t really lived yet.

Well I suppose the first thing I should say is that I am the Business Editor of The Ticker. If you don’t know what The Ticker is, you should consider transferring to another college.

The Ticker is the 80 year-old undergraduate student-run newspaper at Baruch College. The office is not far from the USG (Undergraduate Student Government) office, but to me it is so much more than an office. I would say that the majority of my journalism experience has come from my time at The Ticker. I am beginning my second year at Baruch but since my very first day on campus I have consistently worked extremely hard for The Ticker business section. Last semester I was the Assistant Business Editor.

Much of what Professor Bobelian is talking about in class is not so foreign to me. However I am so excited to learn more about business and finance, as well as work towards mastering these incredible useful tools and tactics that will make me a better writer and reader.  Naturally, I recently declared my major as business journalism but I would also love to minor in middle eastern studies.  My mother was born in Morocco and raised in Israel and my background and heritage is something that is extremely important to me.

Another significant part of my life at Baruch College is my work at YOFI (Youth Organization for Israel), where I am the CCAP Liaison. While YOFI is a part of the Hillel, my work is vastly different from such well known social organization.

As CCAP Liaison, my work consists mainly of managing a $6,000 grant budget from the Pro-Israel organization called CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America).  Additionally I have written about current events in Israel for CAMERA, and I hope to one day work as a Middle-Eastern Correspondent. I look up to writers like Thomas Freidman, Maureen Dowd, Russell Baker, and Ethan Bronner.

I live in the East Village with my family. Yes, my parents live in the village and they are the oldest people in my building. I guess you could say they’re sort of hippies. I have always wanted to be a writer since I learned the English alphabet. Another hobby of mine is learning languages. Given my diverse background I have basic knowledge of about five.

In a perfect world I would one day work for a  widely-read international business publication. But this world is not perfect and I am a young fledgling writer just learning the ways of the business world.

Gaining respect and credibility in a male-dominated professor is definitely much harder than expected but in my 21 years on this Earth I have ascertained that nothing worthwhile is ever easy.

Hello,

Once again, I am Ashley Bazile. I am 21 years old and currently a Junior at Baruch College. I was born in Brooklyn, NY. For the first four years of my life, however,  I was raised by my grandmother in Boston, MA. I moved back shortly after turning 4 years old and have lived in Brooklyn ever since.

This semester I am taking 17 credits and 6 courses. My major is Corporate Communications. I have not officially declared my minor but I am leaning towards a minor is Journalism. This is my first Journalism course but I am also taking 2 more Journalism based courses this semester. I am very passionate about writing but I lean more towards Creative Writing. The end goal is to have written a book before I pass away but I do not think Creative Writing is something I want to do career wise. I think of it as more of a hobby currently but with time that may change.

Fun Fact – I was born on February 29th, 1992, which was a Leap Day. Technically I am 5 years old since my actual birthday only comes once every 4 years. During the years that my actual birthday do not appear, I celebrate on both the 28th of February and the first of March ( 28 + 1 = 29 lol )

I am very family oriented. Most of the time if I am not working or at school, I can be found at a family function or at my brother’s house playing with nephews. I have 3 nephews all under the age of 5. My first nephew, Christian, is 3 years old and his little brothers are twins, Nathan and Ethan. The twins are one years old. My nephews are my pride and joy. i treat them as if they are my own kids. However, the best part is when they become too out of hand I can always bring them back home. They have truly showed me that I am not ready for children at this stage in my life.

Even though I am very family oriented, I make sure to make time for friends. I have three best friends – Farra, Colleen, and DaOndra. They are the people I turn to when I feel like the world is against me. Farra, I met through Sconex several months before we started high school together. Colleen, I met the summer after I graduated high school and DaOndra, I met my second year at Baruch College in French class.

I guess those are a few things about me 🙂

Naotaka Washimi

Hi my name is Naotaka Washimi and I’m from Japan. I’ve been in this country for 5 years now and I’m international student at Baruch. Before entering baruch college, I was majoring accounting at Laguardia Community College and obtain associate degree. Now I switched my major to International Business and minor in Business writing. As of now, I’ve obtain more than 90 credit and expected to graduated spring 2014. I’ve taken JRN3050 in previous semester and learned basic journalism sills.

The reason I choose business writing as minor which is extremely tough for foreign student like me is that having a English skills in writing would definitely  be a lifelong skill for me and help me to boost my career in multi-national company in Japan. Through this academic classes in Journalism, I’d really like to obtain strong English skills in reading and writing which is the one of the most crucial skills in many international companies in today’s world because English is spoken and used in many countries as a communication tools  no matter English is recognized as official language.

My interest in journalism came with

I work part-time as well at The Brandman Agency, a luxury travel and hospitality public relations firm. I’ve been there for about a year now having started as an intern last fall. After 6 months the company made a part-time position for me in hopes I will start full-time post-graduation. Some clients I work with are InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, GRADE Architecture + Interior Design and Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum.

In my free time I enjoy traveling and experiencing various aspects of culture, especially food, art, architecture and film. I have a particular affinity for documentaries and thriller movies. Some of my favorite cuisines are Thai and Indian. Having just moved to East Harlem, I also enjoy exploring the up-and-coming neighborhood with new restaurants and apartment buildings popping up every week.

Some of my more exciting travels have been to Australia and New Zealand as well as Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Los Angeles, California. In the near future I hope to spend some time in Europe since I have yet to visit.

I’m an avid tech fan and extreme Apple loyalist. I keep up with technology news probably more than any other topic. I’m also a big hip-hop music fan and am always eager to hear the latest releases from artists I follow.

Biography

Hi, my name is Laura Rossi, I am currently a Senior at Baruch College and this is my last semester in school. I became a Business Journalism major in the fall of 2011 and I have completed my minor in Graphic Design. I was born and raised in New York City and I can’t really imagine living anywhere else.

My mother is from Colombia and my father is from Italy, making me a first generation college student in my family.  I like to travel and I have been to both countries many times. I feel it is important to keep in touch with my family out there and in turn, my culture and roots.

I currently work as an assistant manager at a boutique located at the W Hotel in Times Square. I have worked there for the past three years and feel it has been a very comfortable job to maintain while being in school. It has also taught me a lot in terms of dealing with people, the psychology of shopping and being patient and easy-going.

Since it is my last semester at Baruch, I constantly get asked what my plans for after college are and, to be honest, I am really not sure yet. I do love to write, so I am hoping I will be able to pursue something within that field but I also do not feel the need to rush into anything job wise. As corny as this might sound,  I feel that life is too short, and to have your life completely planned out as soon as you graduate seems a bit unrealistic.

No one knows where life is going to take you and my mentality is that the most important things about it are your feeling of accomplishment and that at the end of the day, you are happy with how things turned out. This definitely sounds like I’m just bullshitting to conceal the fact that I don’t know what I’m going to do career wise, but I do genuinely feel that way.

Though I don’t know where I will be professionally, I know that when I do figure it out, I will be whole-hardheartedly invested and that it will make me feel accomplished. Until then, I am totally fine with taking a break from school, at least a year, and then I  potentially plan to attend grad school.

My name is Adam Bokszczanin. I’m from Long Island, New York, I am 23 years old and have two part time jobs. Over the past two summers I have studied abroad in Paris, France and Krakow, Poland to elevate my cultural outlook on life. I’m majoring in Music and management. I have taken several business courses at different colleges and one journalism course in spring 2009 at Baruch which focused on news reporting. One dream of mine is to become a music producer and singer when I finally come out of my shell and preform.

I started my college career in Baruch in 2008, from there I went to Nassau Community College, Farmingdale Sate College, back to Nassau Community for my associates degree and now I am back at Baruch 4 years later. I plan to finish my  studies officially at Baruch College which is why I am here now.
