Homework #5 – Question 2

Question 2: What practical steps have you taken or are you thinking of taking to make sure that you don’t find yourself trapped in a filter bubble or in a situation where you are giving up more personal information on the web than you’d like?

The steps I have taken is changing all my password for all the accounts I’ve created and make sure I check them once in a while, especially the ones that store my information. I have to make sure that I remove the history and cookies because sometimes when they ask me for my location, I wouldn’t care that much about it. After taking this class, it makes me aware of what information I’m giving out to the public and it scares me. Luckily, I barely use public computers and use that to log in into any of my accounts. I still don’t trust that. Also, from my findings about how our information can be stored and encrypted if we use our phone to make a payment is very mind-blowing. I didn’t know that before and I just thought it would be okay to use our phones as a form of payments but apparently that’s not safe at all.
