Payment Apps
Throughout this semester, we have analyzed and seen the changes with technology and how it revolves around our lives. Although many of us would admit that we can’t leave our smartphones at home alone and enjoy the day without it, there is one more thing that most smartphone users still unable to do/rather not do with their high-tech phones: Using their phones as payment tools.
In a new report from BI Intelligence, [they] explain why mobile peer-to-peer (P2P) payment apps offer consumers significant advantages over cash and check transactions. They make transferring money faster, less expensive, and more precise. They also reduce the hassle of going to a money transfer agency, remembering a checkbook, or finding an ATM.
Many new generation of apps are invented to help consumers with using their phones as payment tools but still, many would pass that offer. Let’s see why.
Most people don’t trust their phones to do certain payments such as purchasing an item on Ebay, Amazon, or many shopping sites. However, in the context of peer-to-peer payment transactions such as money transfers (Chase Quickpay, PopMoney, etc), this payment apps is really helpful. Many people, including myself, rather not store some personal information and purchase an item online because of these top three reasons below.
Where do you stand?

Generation Like
The idea that social media is revolving around our lives is crazy. We help social media with our content, abilities, and skills to be the “heart of the marketing campaign” without even knowing it. The generation nowadays are interested with getting more and more likes or so I call it to be “accepted” by strangers from social media. The more people who follow, like, share your post, the easier it is to advertise. Now, famous YouTubers get money when they get million likes/views. They are not the only ones, most actors/actresses/companies who are already famous use social media to promote themselves even bigger. For example, the tricky advertisement of Trident Gum by trying to get people to post a video and they picked one video to be published online. Some teenagers don’t know what or who they expose themselves to, which might be dangerous.
I think the winner in all of this is everyone. Some people who are determined to make it big can produce money and sponsorship. Everything that people like on social media is being exposed to more ads, suggestions, apps, and items. People who post many things on social media are being watched and most of them aren’t aware of it. People who get famous over social media are attached to them to get attention and want more. Everyone is being exploited. I don’t think teens are aware when they’re used in the marketing techniques. I agree with Rushkoff that this doesn’t last forever because society gets bored easily and things keep moving with life.

Technology possibly ruins your relationship
In class, we talked about how technology has effected our everyday lives. In my other class, Communications, we also talked about this topic as well and how most people don’t communicate face to face anymore and that may cause misunderstanding when you try to say something important. For example, most people think it is okay to apologize to their friends through email, text, facebook message, and many other social media. Continue reading
Professor Whiteman
Ron Whiteman was my research psychology professor (PSY 5020) last semester.
When I put his name on Google search, this Columbia link below popped out first. http://childpsych.columbia.edu/brainimaging/CV_Whiteman.html
Ron Whiteman was a graduate of Gordon College in 1999 with a BA in Psychology and a double major in Movement Science. From the link, it tells me that his research interests lie in cognitive control, emotion regulation and understanding how these functions help mediate particular social behaviors and interactions. More specifically, he interested in studying the neural mechanisms underlying empathy, compassion and forgiveness. He published 4 journal articles in regard to his cognitive psychology field and he is also highly rated in Baruch.
Love?
When I think about the library, I think of… BOOKS (what else would it be?)
I used to think that only nerds go to library but after my school trip to one of New York libraries, I fell in love with them. I love to read and I wish I have more time to go to libraries but with my schedule, I only read books on my iPad now.
Comments:
"I dislike people who are constantly on their phone. I have to see this everyday at home and it got to the point where my parents are busy playing games on their phone while we're having family dinner ( I hate you Candy Crush....). I think our generation affects older generation because of our overused of technology. Is there a way to fix this? I honestly dont think so."posted on Feb 25, 2014, on the post Technology Dependency – Isn’t It A Choice?
