Here are some helpful links:

Set up a Google Account (you can use whatever account name you want — all that matters is that your name and your partner’s name are at the top of the doc you share with me). Please note: only one of you needs to share the Doc with me.

Drinking Alone with the Moon and Kendrick Lamar

I’ll go first with the assignment for this week — I’m connecting “Drinking Alone with the Moon” to Kendrick Lamar’s Swimming Pool

Remember you have explain the connection you make between your poem and your song in writing in your post — I’ll be explaining mine in class. Look under “assignment details” for more thorough info on this week’s assignment, and have fun with it!

Some thoughts for today’s class

A quick google search of “transnational literature classes” yields many examples of what Jay is talking about (and courses that sound a lot like ours):

University of Chicago’s transnational American literature course

the multicultural and transnational concentration at East Carolina University

World Literature I at a Virginia Community College

etc

etc

And of course our class described in the Eng department like this:

“This course presents a global approach to literature by introducing a variety of narrative, lyric, and dramatic forms representative of different cultures and historical periods, from ancient times through the sixteenth century.”

How does all of this relate to what Paul Jay is talking about?

Welcome to 2800!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Eng2800, Ancient Literature in our Modern World, a hybrid course. This is the main page where you will be posting to the blog and reading your fellow students’ posts.

Take some time to check out the blog and read over your syllabus. Remember to complete your reading / assignment for the online portion of this week — details on the syllabus.

Be sure to change your name under “Edit my profile” so that it is your first and last name (rather than your initials/a series of numbers). Your name needs to be changed so that I can identify you and give you credit for all of your blog posts. Both the online reading and the reading for Tuesday are posted under “course readings” on our blog (which is password protected).

Be in touch if you have any questions, and welcome to our class!
