Group E – check in
Monster by Walter Dean Myers
Group E – Asiye, Trent, Jaclyn
- We would like to give our audience a first hand look at the trial process in which we inform them of Steven Harmon’s situation and allow them to play jury given that this could be a real life situation for every single one of them. After which we would inform them of basic laws that they might not know but would help them better educate themselves with their rights and give them the opportunity to use better judgment in their day to day lives.
- By the end of this lesson students will be able to walk away with better knowledge of laws that will help them read a situation based on the risks and rewards in order to use better judgment.

So I see that your group is starting to pick up and strategize, which is good. This post is definitely more realized than your past check-ins. I will say though what you’ve given me here is more of a point by point break down of how you will finish the project (it’s a helpful thing to have). You haven’t really given me a lesson plan though. Indeed you list the lesson plan as something you still need to draft on your list. You certainly do give me an idea of some of the other things you will do, but this step by step doesn’t quite take me through your class. What’s clear (and has been pretty consistently) is that you really want to do this mock trial. That’s really great and I think a lot of good discussion will come from it. You though are responsible for articulating that simulation as a logical exercise for your particular teaching goal and objectives. This means you need to have a teaching goal. And you need to figure out what the exercise is doing to support that goal. I have faith in your ideas; I do. I just need you to know that at this point you are a little behind in this part of the assignment. It’s not impossible to catch up–not at all, but it will require a little more of your attention to this part of the assignment.
