Group A- Revised Lesson Plan

Our teaching objective and mission is to share with high school students/adolescents the negative repercussions of allowing social divisions and cliques to exist within their school social spheres.  Dividing themselves into clearly defined social cliques can result in bullying and feelings of inadequacy and loneliness that can negatively affect one’s emotional and mental health throughout one’s lifetime which can in turn affect family life and career life.
Our first step after approaching a group of high school students would be to show them my graphic illustration which portrays a young woman attempting to change her outer appearance while searching for her true identity, but is discouraged by her sister who mocks her.  Eventually, the young woman returns to her previous attire and proclaims that she has returned to her “boring old self.”  I will then question the students as to what message they take from the illustration/how they feel about the images depicted and then we will all proceed to briefly share our own high school experiences with them (being that we come from differing backgrounds, we hope to lend them some insight into how this affects students across all social classes, geographical locations, and ethnic/cultural origins).  After this, Alexandra/Amanda will take turns asking them the following questions while I set up and the microphone/equipment and Jessie records their responses:
1. Did/Do social cliques exist within your high school?  If yes, how do you feel these social groups are divided and how did they develop?
2. Truthfully, do you judge others based on appearance and does this effect the way you treat others?
3. Have you ever considered stepping out of your comfort zone and spending time with someone from a completely different social sphere?  If yes, what was the experience like?
Alexandra will then hand them a sheet of information stemming from research that we have conducted in regard to statistics and facts of high school social divisions.  As they look over the sheet we will (all) discuss the information with them.  Our main goal here will be to form a back-and-forth discussion originating from the informational statistics rather than resorting to preaching a lesson.  Following this, one of the members (we will take turns with this task) will explain how the multi-layered dynamics of social divisions existing within high school goes on to affect post-graduation life so that by the end of the lesson they will truly believe that breaking free from social divisions can only be a beneficial step that will lead to emotional and mental advancement.
After gathering at least five-six adequate interviews we will download the memory card’s storage to one of our laptops and we will edit the footage using iMovie.  Myself or one of my other group members may then choose to record narration using the microphone and add these voiceovers to the finished product.
