For the radio interview project, I have decided to combine my cultural background with the current election. I think the political perspective of each culture differs based on the conditions of the socioeconomic realm from which they come from.
The Soviet Union as we know it was a place of corruption, religious persecution and poverty. Said in one word – communism; and the effects of it. As one could imagine, growing up in these conditions, not knowing anything else steers your belief system towards accepting this unfair and cruel treatment. The worst part being is that these conditions were presented as just. Standing in line for hours for sugar and only receiving as much as your family headcount allotted for on top of no synagogues existing were just some of the barricades faced by the Russian Jewish community.
This community now resides in Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, NY and for some reason, is completely 100% pro Trump. In fact, people even go on to say that they hate Hillary and Democrats. Because I have differing views, I want to find out what their views on immigration policy are (Trump’s wall and focus on deportation), foreign policy (relationship building with foreign nations – Trump having his hands on the nuclear arms deal) and just a general consensus of the election.
I look forward to reporting this story!
