The previous article that I linked showed how the Shutdown has affected our research and has really wrecked things for the whole team. If they are unable to complete their research this year because of the shutdown, they won’t be able to get it back since we can’t turn time back. The NY Times published another article that makes a nice contrast to the last one. This article shows how the Shutdown is also affecting us economically. You are likely aware of this, but you really sympathize when they name specific examples. It’s one thing to read off a bunch of statistics and another to see people suffering from the current situation. One quote that the NY Times posted in the article from Rebecca McKown was: “We’re just trying to make it,” she said. “We don’t care whose fault it is. Fix it.” I’d say that this sums up what most people are thinking perfectly. Many really don’t care how it started, but now that the shutdown is affecting us all, it must be stopped. The article brings up restaurant owners, inn employees, and many other examples of jobs that aren’t doing so well. Nobody is around to eat the food so the restaurant isn’t making any money. If nobody’s staying at the inn, then there isn’t money being brought in to pay the staff. Every day that the Shutdown continues, I’m sure that at a minimum, hundreds of people are feeling the ramifications.
