With the government shutdown now over, it is time to analyze the repercussions of the costs of the government shutdown on the US economy. According to the New York TimesĀ  the costs of the government shutdown are in the billions and confidence in the financial health of the United States continues to be eroded. Not only has the government shutdown created massive costs, but it is likely to lead to a decrease in economic growth for the next financial quarter. Considering that the last time Congress fought to raise the debt ceiling led to a downgrade by the Standard and Poors from AAA to AA+, it remains to be seen what future government shutdowns will do to the US economy.
