When the government last shut down two decades ago, websites, let alone government websites were almost non-existent, according to the New York Times. Pages such as the FCC, NASA, and various “non-essential” government websites are now offline in an unprecedented move that borders almost on the senseless, as some can argue this cost the government more money than shutting it down. Of course, essential websites like whitehouse.gov and the IRS. are still online.
