As I read what people before me have posted, It inspires me yet frustrates me at the same time. Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s my implicit social cognitive that blinds me into not understanding certain predicaments people face. Majority of these posts are smeared heavily with an ignorant and privileged point of view. Completely neglecting the limiting factors society has placed to certain people who don’t fit the image society has placed them in before birth.
My life matters because I truly believe I’m here to influence and inspire those who come after me. I see the process of growth just as fulfilling as the product. My life matters because I’m here to make a difference to 1 or 100 people in this flawed society we blindly live as comfortable as possible is going to be here for a while. Well, maybe not since your president. Yes “your president”, doesn’t believe in Global Warming. But also acknowledge the struggles of those who came before me and act upon what they started. Do everything in my power so subvert patriarchal norms, even if it’s as small as being the first in my family to have a college degree, or becoming the male RN I aspire to be. Though I don’t have the answers to what my future holds, I know I’m sure as hell ready to accept and conquer whatever stands in my way.
